Ask a Geek Girl: I Need a Good iPhone 3G Case

Although I've listed tons of new case options, there are still some of you that want something specific.

Although I've listed tons of new case options, there are still some of you that want something specific. Take Geek reader millarci, for example, when she wrote in to ask about which iPhone 3G case she should invest in:

I'm in the market for an iPhone 3G case. I prefer something clear, but want something that will protect my iPhone 3G from scratches, smudges, etc. So far, I'm leaning towards the Contour Flick, which seems to be a best-seller on the apple website. Any ideas?

Griffin Runs an Apple Exclusive Club: The Powerdock

My quest for the perfect power hub seemed to come to an end with the West Elm Charging Station, but this little number has made me think twice about that declaration.

My quest for the perfect power hub seemed to come to an end with the West Elm Charging Station, but this little number has made me think twice about that declaration. If you have an extensive Apple product family like me, then you can appreciate this Griffin Powerdock that safely charges up to four iPods and/or iPhones at once. I like the sleek brushed metal casing that would add to my already futuristically bling'd out desk, but the extra grippy rubber base will keep me from worrying that my goods will take a tumble over the edge. I do live in an earthquake prone area — a girl can never be too protective of her gadgets, you know.

The Powerdock comes with two or four slots so you can accommodate your own toys, or share the charging real estate with your i-loving partner. Although the $50 - $70 price tag does seem a bit high for Apple-only charging capabilities, it is pretty chic, nonetheless. I'd rock it.

Macworld 2008: Griffin's RocketFM Transmitter

The "Something Is in the Air" Apple theme made its way into the Griffin booth during Macworld yesterday.

The "Something Is in the Air" Apple theme made its way into the Griffin booth during Macworld yesterday. At first glance I thought these rockets were small radios or even shuffle docs, but it turns out they have a much geekier purpose.

The RocketFM transmits music from apps like iTunes or Garage Band, and it can even stream Internet radio to any FM receiver within 30 feet. Totally useful if you have a Mac or PC in one room, but need to rock out in another. Since it's open to just about any FM frequency from 88.1 to 107.9, you are sure to find a signal all to yourself — just plug in and choose your station! Plus the design is oh so geek chic, I almost can't resist getting one for myself!

Love It or Leave It

Multi-Colored TuneBuds: Love or Leave?

When it comes to earphones, the most important factors for me are sound quality and how they fit in my ears.

When it comes to earphones, the most important factors for me are sound quality and how they fit in my ears. If they just so happen to be stylish as well, I consider this an added bonus. Well Griffin has just come out with new TuneBuds that are both functional and fashionable. With six new colors to choose from including silver, pink, light green, blue, light blue, and red, (which match the new iPod Nanos quite nicely), they are certainly a great gift idea. TuneBuds come with three interchangeable washable silicone ear cushions for added comfort and the sound quality is said to be clear yet powerful. Priced at $20 each. Are you feeling them? Griffin Creates Headphone Adapter for the iPhone

If you have an iPhone, you were probably just as furious as I was when I realized that my car adapter cord wouldn't fit into my iPhone's headphone jack.

If you have an iPhone, you were probably just as furious as I was when I realized that my car adapter cord wouldn't fit into my iPhone's headphone jack. Unfortunately the iPhone headphone jack comes conveniently recessed so most standard headphones won't fit into the plug. Thankfully Griffin has just come out with this Headphone Adapter for iPhone so you can use your ordinary headphones with the iPhone. For $10 you can get one of these specially designed stereo-mini plugs and swap your Apple earbuds for your favorite headphones.

New Case Offers Complete iPhone Coverage

A close cousin to the new Elan Snap-In iPhone case, the Elan Holster from Griffin offers all around protection for your iPhone.

A close cousin to the new Elan Snap-In iPhone case, the Elan Holster from Griffin offers all around protection for your iPhone. Instead of having to turn your device around in the case when you aren't using it (like you do with the Snap-In), the Holster serves as a full body suit for your iPhone.

The phone can easily be pulled out, but you can transport it or keep it in your purse or pocket without wondering if it's turned itself on or automatically dialed your mother in law.

The case also has a nifty removable clip, which threatens to ruin your street cred if you attach it to your belt buckle, but can serve as a perfectly chic option for clipping the device inside your bag or laptop carrier. It's made of an embossed black leather shell with a no-scratch lining and costs $29.99.

Geek Out: Find The Ideal Outdoor Speakers

Back in the day, playing tunes outside consisted of blasting my mini CD player.

Back in the day, playing tunes outside consisted of blasting my mini CD player. Thankfully technology (and my taste in music) has improved over the years. For instance, Griffin's wireless Evolve speakers are great because you can place them wherever you want to hear music, whether it be poolside or in the backyard. Unfortunately these speakers have not yet been released so I need some alternative suggestions. You can help me and many other geeksugar readers who are looking for the ideal outdoor speakers by bookmarking them and tagging your finds with "outdoor speakers." When you bookmark, let me know why you think they make the perfect outdoor speakers. Then check back to geeksugar the end of this week to see if I featured your bookmarks in my ideal outdoor speakers guide. Griffin's Evolve Speaker - Wireless And Portable

When the folks from Griffin dropped by to let me test out their portable Journi speaker they also let me test out the soon-to-be-released Evolve speaker, which combines a small, traditional iPod speaker system with the joy of portability and wirelessness.

When the folks from Griffin dropped by to let me test out their portable Journi speaker they also let me test out the soon-to-be-released Evolve speaker, which combines a small, traditional iPod speaker system with the joy of portability and wirelessness.

The system is made up of a light charging base and two cube-shaped speakers that can be moved off the base or in to a new room. The demo guy actually started it up and made me follow him across the office with one of the cubes and shockingly, the sound was still pretty great. My favorite part is, there is no wire hassle, so you can put one speaker on your desk and keep the other in another room and not worry about tripping over wires.

Each speaker has its own Lithium-Ion battery pack, which apparently delivers up to 10 hours of music between charges. The system also works with non-iPod MP3 devices. Price and release date available soon.

Griffin's Journi Speaker Has Travel Potential

Some folks from Griffin stopped by our office during their recent PR tour and let us play with their new line of speakers.

Some folks from Griffin stopped by our office during their recent PR tour and let us play with their new line of speakers. While the others may offer better sound (don't worry, I'll share those reviews with you soon), I was charmed by the journi's tiny, portable "classy boombox" qualities. They call it a "personal mobile speaker," which is just what it is. Close up the speaker looks like a clutch, but opened up it folds into a lightweight pyramid of sound. According to the reps, the battery works for up to 10 hours, so you can take the little speaker traveling, to a picnic or at your desk (they didn't let me play with it for that long so I can't stand by that claim!). If it doesn't last 10 hours it is powered by internal Lithium-Ion batteries, which can recharge with the included AC adapter or through your computer's powered USB port.

To work it you just slide your iPod into the dock (it works with other MP3 players as well) and spin a wheel to adjust the "wrapstand" around your player and hit play on your iPod or the remote. The wrapstand means the speaker works just as well with the mini or nano as it does the regular size iPod and it won't shift around in your bag.

AirDock For iPod - For Your Computer, Stereo or TV

If you're not the type to just use a cable to connect your iPod to your speakers or TV, consider the AirDock for iPod, a nifty little device that can control, charge and play your iPod through your TV, stereo or computer.

If you're not the type to just use a cable to connect your iPod to your speakers or TV, consider the AirDock for iPod, a nifty little device that can control, charge and play your iPod through your TV, stereo or computer.

Initially, I thought it was just another "not so necessary" gadget, but I realized the fact that it is controlled by a nifty remote allows full listening control. You won't have to get up from dinner, the couch or bed to push the click wheel, because you can just click away on the remote. Also, the fact that the dock charges your iPod means you don't have to worry about hooking it up to your computer before getting up to work out in the morning.
