Food Allergy Awareness Week Kicks Off With Anti-Food Allergy Bullying PSA

The school cafeteria can be a scary place for tots who must avoid certain foods because even a trace amount can trigger a dangerous reaction.

The school cafeteria can be a scary place for tots who must avoid certain foods because even a trace amount can trigger a dangerous reaction. According to FARE, Food Allergy Research & Education, over 15 million people in the US (one in 13 children) have food allergies. As if living with the condition weren't tough enough, about one third of kids affected by food allergies report being bullied, often by classmates taunting them with food.

Food Allergy Awareness Week kicked off yesterday and FARE is using this week to launch the "It's Not a Joke" public service announcement to increase understanding of allergies. The PSA presents food allergies in the context of bullying to make it more relatable to people who do not suffer from them. The powerful video definitely pulls on the heartstrings, but is it too tough?

Huggies TweetPee: Kid-Friendly or Are You Kidding?

Even when Mom's at work, she can know if her tot's in need of a new diaper.

Even when Mom's at work, she can know if her tot's in need of a new diaper. Huggies Brazil has data-collecting parents in mind with its latest introduction — the TweetPee. According to an ad the company placed on YouTube (in Portuguese), the TweetPee is a sensor that attaches to baby's diaper. When a child pees, and humidity inside the diaper increases, a tweet is sent to the parents' Twitter accounts informing them that junior needs a change. There's also an associated iPhone app that tracks the number of diapers that have been used, telling parents when it's time to purchase a new pack.

There's no indication that the product is heading to the US, so for now, you'll either have to buy it and receive your messages in Portuguese, or just go about changing nappies the old-fashioned way — by feeling for a heavy diaper.

Baby's Debut: Celebrity Tots' First Official Photos

For a long time running, it seemed People had a monopoly on introductory celebaby photos.

For a long time running, it seemed People had a monopoly on introductory celebaby photos. Nicole Richie, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, and the Jolie-Pitts all turned to the well-established magazine to show off their newest family members. However, today, many celebs are turning to competitors who are doling out generous offerings to new parents. Others are releasing their own photos — either on their own or through photo agencies — to bypass the whole magazine scenario. See how your favorite Tinseltown parents — Malin Akerman being the most recent — debuted their little ones, and tell us how you think the newest Hollywood babies will be introduced to us!

Common Induction Drug, Pitocin, Found to Affect Newborns

It's one of the most commonly thrown-about terms in the third trimester — induction.

It's one of the most commonly thrown-about terms in the third trimester — induction. For pregnant women who are past their due dates, and those who've been laboring for what feels like forever, receiving a dose of Pitocin (a brand of oxytocin) is often music to their ears. The commonly used hormone can kick labor into high gear and increase the rate of contractions during labor, bringing moms-to-be that much closer to delivering their babies.

After years of use, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) just released a study finding that Pitocin may have adverse effects on newborns. Their research shows that full-term babies whose moms received the hormone have a higher risk for being admitted to the NICU and receive lower Apgar scores five minutes after birth. Though the doctors are not recommending that the hormone be removed from labor and delivery units, they are suggesting that "oxytocin use may not be as safe as once thought and that proper indications for its use should be documented for further study."

Knowing this, would you try to avoid being induced — or receiving Pitocin to move a labor along — in the future?

Jillian Harris and Molly Mesnick Collaborate on a Modern Gender-Neutral Nursery

It seems like just yesterday that we shared the details of The Bachelor season 13 contestant Molly Mesnick's baby shower.

It seems like just yesterday that we shared the details of The Bachelor season 13 contestant Molly Mesnick's baby shower. Fast-forward a few months, and Molly and Jason Mesnick are now parents to baby Riley Anne and are proudly showing off the nursery they designed with a lot of help from their good friend — and former Bachelorette star — Jillian Harris.

"I knew that I wanted the room to feel crisp, fresh, and not-so-baby. Not knowing the gender of baby Mesnick, I also wanted the colors to be neutral," Molly shared. "Jillian took my feedback and a few examples of rooms I liked from Pinterest to come up with the most incredible vision board."

The resulting nursery is a beautiful mix of modern and classic with neutral colors that didn't scream yellow. Click through to see all of the fine details found throughout the room.
