Are You Interested in Trying Google's Chrome OS?

On Tuesday, Google announced the launch of its new Chrome OS, which will be available for consumers next year.

Google's operating system will compete with OS X, Windows, and Linux, and promises to be open source and lightweight. Google says that it will first come to netbooks, and if it's as quick as the "lightweight" term promises, you can bet I'll be getting my hands on it as soon as I can.

Naturally, that's mostly due to my curiosity, rather than an unhappiness with OS X, which is what I'm running now.

Are you going to switch over to Chrome OS when you can?

I have a Macbook Air, which is ferrari of portable laptops. So, I have no use for this. But, Google has a great track record so far with app development. I'd love to see where they go with this. Windows 7 is also supposed to be scalable for portable devices, so these two will compete with one another. I'm all for anything to break Windows market share.

I'll play around with it too, but probably won't consider it unless I get a netbook.

I have a Dell netbook, which I love...and I definitely plan on using this when it comes out. I do think it's just glorified linux for now, but we'll see.

If Chrome is focusing on the netbook market, then I don't really see how it would be competing with OS X. Unless Apple DOES decide to get into that market, Chrome would just have to worry about Microsoft and other Linux distributions. That said, while I love my macs, I also use a dell laptop. I wouldn't mind loading Chrome on it to try it out, or even getting a netbook with Chrome pre-installed.
