You Heard It Here First: Apple Has Revamped the MacBook and MacBook Pro

I was first on the scene to report that Apple would be announcing a new MacBook and MacBook Pro today and guess what all you naysayers — I was right! Both the MB and MB Pro have received major upgrades, including the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, larger hard drives (MBP 200GB-250GB, MB 120GB - 250GB), and more memory. Unfortunately, the multitouch trackpad is only coming to the Pro. . . . One would assume that Jobs would have wanted to make this a standardized feature across the board?!

Prices start at $1,999 for the 15-inch MacBook Pro and $1,099 for the 13-inch MacBook.

yeah, i don't get why the new trackpad is missing, either. hmm. i just saw the macbook air today in a store. yowzers - that thing is cute and light!:)

Ahh! In class today we were JUST discussing how horrible technological obsolescense is.... I bought my macbook pro only 2 months ago, and for the same price I could have a better computer :(

Oooh a new release! I am seriously considering the new MB pro. But will wait for the first few complaints on Macrumors before taking the plunge, because, imo, Apple QC is not what it used to be.

I'm starting to save now... My warranty on my now completely antiquated Powerbook G4 is up in July so I'm using that as my excuse/deadline for updating ;).

I wish the MacBook had gotten the multitouch trackpad, I don't really think its fair that Apple didn't add it. According to Brian Lam at Gizmodo, "Sources at iFixit have told us that the Broadcom BCM5974 Multitouch controller chip, the hardware component for multitouch in the iPhone and Macbook Air, costs only $2.95, so cost isn't the prohibiting factor when it comes to multitouch in the standard Macbook." http://lburl.com/dzjoc I really want the cool touch bade, but I'm not sure I can spring for the extra $600 bucks for the Pro right now, even though the NVIDIA graphics processor is also a major pull. Do I wait to buy it until I get my $600 "economy stimulator" from Uncle Sam? Or do I buy a MacBook now? Black or White? Decisions, Decisions.

GAH NEED MORE THAN 80 GB HARD DRIVE CANNOT AFFORD. so fun story. my boyfriend got the top of the line 17 inch macbook pro summer of 06 before we started college. it had the largest hard drive at the time, which was 80 gb then i'm pretty sure, fastest everything. so i go, i spill a glass of milk, and it gets fixed at this high price. then about 4 months after that the entire battery explodes in the computer, and that was ugly because the battery was all huge and it cracked his case a bit. but this had nothing to do with the milk. just... well his mac hates him. then, about 3 months after that, his screen starts going haywire - and one night stops working completely, and as a digital design major, this is bad. it means all homework gone. so we go to the mac store, act pathetic, and the guy takes the macbook pro home with him. about 45 minutes - 1 hour after we leave, the guy calls and says: "man... your computer is just so effed up, we're going to just have to give you a new one." so my boyfriend get s anew 120gb, faster computer. i am envoius. sigh. but i am waiting for something better. i hate this aluminum casing! i want my orange plastic ibook back - pleez!

I wonder if these newer Macbooks are more sturdy than the previous generation. I purchased mine last summer, and a few weeks ago I had to take it in to replace the bevel around the keyboard, because the front edge got a crack in it, which turns out to be pretty common with my generation's MBs. Even though they replaced it fast and free (it's still under warranty), I'm worried that it will crack again, like others' MBs have done. If these newer ones are sturdier, I just might have to bite the bullet and get one.

Neat! Nice to see them, finally. Macrumors mentioned it, but there's so much speculation over there, it's hard to say if they are right most of the time. Good call, though. :D
