Are You in a Geek Relationship?

"So you're not a computer geek," Jim told Pam on this week's episode of The Office. It was kind of sad to hear, knowing Jim is geeky himself, but I know they can get through this.

It also made me grateful that I myself am in a mutual geek relationship — we drool over new tech announcements together and scheme about what our next home tech purchase together will be.

We're a total geek couple (though not as dorky as Screech Powers and Violet Bickerstaff, there). It's as perfect as it can get for me.

But what about you? Is one of you the geek in your relationship, or are you both geeks?

we are both geeks in practically all the same ways and i love it! Both hardcore gamers, love the same kinds of music, love concerts and dorky outings like Medieval Times and arcades, love the same scifi, action, and comedy movies. It's SO great sharing all the same hobbies and interests with your boyfriend because i can't imagine wanting to be best friends with anyone else more!

My first love was actually defiantly anti-geek, and thought it was SO CUTE that I was a dork. In retrospect, it really was a sort of abrasive personality clash. Now that I think about it, I'm much happier with my nerdier boyfriend. He isn't as excited by gadgets and tech as I am, but we both play video games and we built a computer together.

On my 2nd date with my husband, the entire night was talking about electronics. We both love gadgets, and usually love to spend part of our free time together at electonic stores. The majority of magazines & books we have are computer related as well.

My husband and I together span every possibility of geek-dom. We're both into tech and science, but he's definitely more science-savvy, and I'm more tech-savvy and grammar-savvy.

my boyfriend is into the arts (film, writing, drawing, etc. most of which are not my areas of expertise.) i'm the major geek in the relationship (being the math/science whiz, which he isn't). he enjoys gadgets, but knows little to nothing about how they work, but he's very tolerant of me drooling over new technology all the time, and he LOVES the fact that i know how to fix both of our computers whenever they act up.

We are both definitely geeky. As we speak, he is playing Ninja Gaiden 2 on the 360 while I'm looking up Black Friday deals for external hard drives and a new wireless network card. After I'm done making this post, I'll be bringing in laundry for him to fold while I play Final Fantasy 3 (6). A few weekends ago, we dressed up and participated in a Zombie Walk and some months ago we went to a (21+) zombie prom in Portland. We have our geeky differences - I enjoy horror movies way more and my gaming tends to lean more towards the old school type. He's fond of downloading technology when possible (roms and torrenting TV shows) while I'm a collector of old consoles and DVDs. We're both hoping that our future children will be equally as geeky. :)

My boyfriend and I are geeks together for sure! We met working at EB Games together and spend every night playing video games. I couldnt be happier :D

My husband is such a geek! He builds our computers, writes the programs, plays video games and rebuilds cars. But I love him for all of that. The geekist thing that I do is read books.

My boyfriend and I are both geek and I enjoy that in so many ways. It only reveals that technology, video games and all that surrounds it really takes a big place in both of our lifestyles and also reveals that we have something important in common :).

We are both geeks. To put it simply, we have started checking the backs of every game we buy to make sure there is a co-op mode. If there isn't it goes back on the shelf.

Yes. I will put it this way: we met playing World of Warcraft. (We play Warhammer now though we both were WoW "veterans" of 3 years.) We have a Wii as well, he's frighteningly good at Mario Smash Bros, though lately we have been on WAR more often. His uni studies are online programming, my employment is online advertising/graphic design/flash programming. We surf side-by-side over morning coffee, both have iPods, named our home network "lolwtfgiefinternetz" and are loyal "Angry Video Game Nerd" fans. :D

Yes, we are both a pair of geeks. We were just a second ago reading our feeds and migrating our WoW characters to new servers. He is a nice mix of geek and normal though. He's now gone to go find his tool box and I can hear the tape measure! If he was TOTAL geek then it might be an issue but he's also a nice manly man too. :D

we play fallout 3 and compare notes on how different are games are. that's how geeky we are :P

I would have it no other way! I don't know how I'd define my particular brand of geekness. I'm the household's primary gamer, and love to tinker with my computer but am not what I'd consider competent at it. My husband's the home's primary traditional computer guy/electronics/music gear/gear of any kind geek. We're both sci-fi and anime nerds. I've turned him into a console gamer with our recent xbox 360 purchase. We now have two so we don't have to fight over the console. ;P

My guy and I are undercover geeks. We play it cool on the outside, but once we come home... the party clothes come off and we revert to our Star Wars-loving, anime-watching, video game-playing, computer-building techie selves. :)
