Is It Wrong To Look At Your Partner’s Web History?

My boyfriend recently came into the living room and interrupted one of my wild crossword puzzle tangents asking me a much dreaded question: Do you still read your ex’s blog?
While the answer is yes, (who doesn’t? or wouldn’t?) I felt trapped. I hadn’t told any of our leaky-lipped friends I’d been keeping up on my ex’s new job and relationship via his painfully descriptive blog so visions of a hidden camera system and night goggles filled my head.

How had my boyfriend learned of my online sleuthing? He’d trolled through the browser history in search of a wet-suit manufacturer he’d found a week before and in his quest, "checked out" my recent page history. So, is it wrong or right?

My fiance and I just decided to end our relationship over this very topic. Used his computer 6 months ago and discovered he had been looking at porn for almost a year. Two months b4 discovery I asked him directly and he denied. After the discovery he gave me permission to put "spyware: on his computer and not to tell him so he couldnt manipulate. Long story short he thought I had stopped and found out I still occasionally check. Because he had been good and stopped he felt this was still a huge violation of privacy. Never did he ask if I had removed it or requested me to remove it. I feel I still had a right to continue till Trust was fully restored...

Haha, redsugar, that is SO cute! I think you need to trust the person you are with, otherwise, why are you with them? In my younger days, I would have snooped around, but I trust my husband. And I would want him to trust me, too. It would hurt my feelings if he was checking up on me.

Computers really aren't built so that people can share AND have privacy - even though my brother very, ah, courteously clears the history whenever he goes somewhere he knows I don't want to come across, google has a loooong memory.

I don't go looking for stuff. I trust my husband. We respect each others privacy. Firefox has a google toolbar. You type what you want to search for and hit enter. It also remembers what you have typed previously. I was on my husband's laptop and went to search for something and started typing something with a T and "Tina Fey naked" popped up. I had to laugh.
