Folks in Helsinki have put up a large multi-touch display in downtown that acts as a collaborative and playful interface for the community and city's planning. Called "CityWall," the display is periodically organized into themes or events that are taking place in the city such as festivals, carnivals or sports events. Much like the much-talked about Microsoft Surface table, the CityWall was designed to support the navigation of media, specifically annotated photos and videos which are continuously gathered in realtime from public sources such as Flickr and YouTube. I think multi-touch screens offer some exciting possibilities for the workplace and public centers, but I'm not sure if ordinary citizens would use them or not.

Esprit
Sure why not, it looks pretty cool. They remind me of Minority Report.
1OOOO yessss I would!!!
2if i could figure out the darn thing, i'd take a poke at it.
3this seems really cool, i would def use it!
4I don't know if I would use it.
5First thing that came to my mind was everyones germs...
6Not sure if ordinary citizens would use them or not? Yeah, probably most people wouldn't use the internet or video cameras, or computers for that matter.
Perhaps not today, but of course. Interactive computer surfaces are the future. Germs won't be concern when you wave your hands under some bacteria killing infra-red lamp next to the stations, right?
7I would use it!
8Oh bacteria killing infra-red lamp thingy, where are you now? I think I need a portable one as well so I can use it on peoples keyboards before I fix their computers
9I would use it---it sounds a more efficient and convenient way for me to check on what's hapening around
10Looks fun, I don't think I'd use it... I'd play with it lol
11Of course.
12yeah i'd definitely use it. I think it would mostly be used by tourists though as they don't necessarily have access to the internet when they come to town. They should have them in hotels and hostels. I think that's where it would be most useful. it's an easy way to find out what's going on when you're already on the road.
as for germs, i don't think it's any different than holding on to a pole on the bus or metro (subway, trains, whatever you call in in your city..
), so i don't think that's a big issue. if you're already walking
around with Purel, then you don't really have anything to worry about.
13i love these interactive things in cities, even if only tourists use them. i like the concept, for sure.
14I'm such a geek but I would like one of those in my home to organize my life!
15speaking of which, Garage boutique (girls' clothing store) in Montreal now has an interactive window. It's like a giant screen people can interact with, get info on the clothes inside the store, go to the website, chat on the forums. I haven't seen it yet though so I'm not sure what it's like. I'm quite excited to find out though!
16looks fun but would i use it..? um i wouldn't know what for,
