Winning Global Laptop Design: Love or Leave?

Last October, HP and MTV held a Global Design Competition where young designers were encouraged to submit their own laptop creations. With over 85 entries, the winning design went to Joao from Portugal, who now has his creation on a HP Pavilion dv2800t Artist Edition model. Gizmodo reports that the specs of this laptop aren't too shabby either, with a 14.1-inch screen and a Centrino processor, you can count on it for photo editing, playing games and watching movies. All this, and a matching messenger bag, for $1,130. What do you think? Does the design appeal to you?

i find the graphics too loud and unimaginative !! i have an hp pavilion dv 2700 notebook.. and i think my laptop designs waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy nicer than this one!!! LOL... for all its worth i couldve probably come up with a prettier design!

i agree with shini. it's unoriginal. there are tons of graphics out there that look the exact same way. i don't see why it won. i do love the colors though.

too vector-y...its that typical style where a tasteful graphic designer starts learning about illustrator.

It's totally hideous. I don't know why people are still falling for this style of graphics as being "cool." It's boring and typical of kids with no art training and that just mess around with Illustrator and Photoshop in their free time. Amateur style.

i like it, but it's not for me. i like the simplicity and cleanliness of a solid colored laptop.

I think the art and graphics are very cool. But I think the idea of skinning your laptop makes more sense. You don't get the wrap around graphics, but you can switch the art whenever you want to. https://www.gelaskins.com/skins.php?Device=7&Category=15&Skin=157&ProductCode=274

Not a fan of the brown, blue, peach, orange combo. Another example of the vector art seen everywhere with a bunch of circles in it... yaawwn. I saw better entries for this contest.

I love the graphics and design and the way it does wrap around he whole laptop.. but... I just wouldn't want one.. I think i'd get bored looking at it all the time and could find it quite detracting.

Love the design. Would actually like to see this design, or a similar one, with customizable colors. Really like how it wraps around the entire laptop, not just the top/cover piece. Very cool!

I like the design but it seems very... busy for a laptop. I think that when the average person upgrades their laptop every 3 years or so, you better REALLY like that design for the long haul.

I think the design is stupid, very "MTV." Why is that advertising execs seem to feel teenagers/ young adults love the color brown? Anyone else noticed that?
