Where Do You Get Your Movies?

This weekend my best friend turned me on to CinemaNow, which serves up on-demand and download and burn movies and video content. While I'm a Netflix girl, who occasionally rents DVDs from my local rental spot, the idea of legal downloads is really alluring.

CinemaNow has more than 4,000 feature-length films, television programs and music concerts and offers five different ways to get and pay for your movies: Free, Subscription, Rent, Buy, and Burn to DVD. So where do you get your movies?

You know what was the worst for me was REDBOX! We didn't have our Netflix one night, so we decided to head over to McD's for one. They were out of most movies, so we got Syriana, which we really didn't have a lot of interest in watching. Then we forgot to return it, and kept forgetting. At the end, I paid like $6 for a movie I didn't watch. I was only paying 10.99/mo for Netflix then! But, my SIL sent me a link with Free Redbox codes, so maybe I'll try that out.

I used to have Netflix when I was living in Virginia, it was ok but it was kind of annoying when we would keep a movie for months without watching it. Nowadays I borrow movies only from the library (we moved to FL a few months ago) and it's been a great money saver, besides, they have all the latest movies and TV shows. Sometimes it takes a while for a hold to be available, but most of the time I get my movies in a couple of days, and if nobody else is requesting them I can renew them a bunch of times.

Netflix is GLORIOUS...My boyfriend and I set it up so each of us our own queue on the same account, so that each of us has a movie that we're interested in out at the same time. (Instead of having to take turns) And it's great because we've been able to add TONS of old movies that we never got around to seeing, classics you can't find in the local shops, and bunches of TV shows. And we'll still check out the local Hollywood Video (which is nice enough to send out Rent 1 Get 1 Free coupons on a regular basis) if there's a new release that we want to watch RIGHT AWAY instead of waiting for it from Netflix. And it only takes a couple days for Netflix to receive my DVD and ship out my next one, so we rarely are without at least one Netflix movie in our house. If you watch a lot of movies, it's pretty rad. I think Blockbuster Online and Netflix are pretty comparable...

lately we've been ordering movies through the "on demand" feature of our digital cable provider...maybe not the cheapest, but definitely most convenient...can't be too choosy about the movie though since you're options are kind of limited...

I buy them at HMV, at Sainsbury's supermarket or online at Play.com. I do sometimes watch online also.

Mmm Heart - are unlimmited movie passes available in the US?! if they are, i'll HAVE TO GET ONE!!!! we go to the movies at least once a week, that would be a big savings!

After doing Netflix for a year and having the same three dvd's for six months I cancelled it. It took too much thought and pre planning at that point in my life. I recently signed up for some sort of "pass" which was blockbusters in store monthly thing. It was like $26 a month and you had two movies that could come and go as much as you want with no late fees ever. I recently signed up for their online one which is cheaper, I get three out and still that instant gratification aspect where I can take my mailed movies into blockbuster and turn them in for three store rentals. Once they check in my three mailed ones, three more from my online queue get released. So I have six videos right now, the three from the store still have the ability to get late fees though... I like the idea of the instant download option. I think I will wait until we have that Xserve with Raid at home so we can just stream it all. The thought of having burned DVD's laying around takes me back pre iPod days with my tons of burned cd's with cryptic sharpy descriptions ;-)

In fact, thanks to Fit's suggestion, I just added a queue for fitness DVD's. I love not having to go to the video store - I always end up on my cell, reading all the titles they have trying to figure out which ones to get. Plus, Netflix is way cheaper for us. I almost NEVER go to the movies.

I still go to the cinema for movies because I have an unlimted card (€18/month for all the movies you can watch). Also, I buy a lot of DVDs and I wait until I go to Canada or the USA to visit family/friends to rent ones I haven't seen and/or ones that weren't released over here. :D
