Website of the Day: yoName

Updated 07/14/08 12:27 PM · Posted by GeekSugar · 38 comments

This is definitely one of those websites that you can't help but get addicted to! When you go to yoName, you can type in someone's email address (see below) or their first and last name to see which social networks they are apart of. Myspace, Facebook, Friendster you name it - yoName will search it. Whether you are looking for celebrities, old flames, friends or family members, this awesome website will do all the detective work for you in a matter of a few seconds- fantastic! Update: Thanks to all the users who have submitted comments below. As we've learned, be cautious of typing in someone's email as that person will be sent an email saying that someone was searching their online profiles on yoName- don't worry they won't know its you, but still- eek! You are safe with just typing in first and last names or usernames.

  1. First of all, join the Website of the Day group
  2. Click "Create and Share!" on the left hand side
  3. Choose "Blog"
  4. Give your photo a Title
  5. Leave the category as "general"
  6. Change the channel to "technology and gadgets"
  7. Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Website of the Day")
  8. Click on the "Add Image" link below the "body" box
  9. A popup window will happen - click on "Browse" to find your image on your computer
  10. Once you have the image chosen, click "Submit"
  11. The popup will show you your image, choose size: "normal" - if you want, you can give it a title (which will show up as a caption)
  12. Click "Insert" and the popup will go away
  13. Your "body" box will now have some text in it. Leave it as is. If you want to add some text before the picture telling me why you love the website, do it before the code that has appeared.
  14. Click Submit

So join the Website of the Day group and share information about all of your favorite sites! Yours just might end up on the geeksugar homepage!

Of course, I visited that site. I found it to be fun; just to search and see who's name came up.

Kinda creepy. I'm glad it didn't bring up anything for mine. I don't like people being able to find my info so easily.

Ok, just got an email telling me I've been searched for. So don't be searching for people if you don't want them to know!

I guess it's kinda cool that it does the detective work for you. But at the same time, kind of seems like an invasion of privacy. Totally too easy for someone to stalk you with.

I've tryed it and this doesn't work very well. Plain Google finds much more results when I am looking for my long lost friends who live worldwide now...
Neat! It doesn't work that well, but I tried it anyway. My phantom room mate doesn't have an account ANYWHERE (I checked each site, too). That stinks, but I guess the mystery will be exciting. I hope she's not anti-computer.

Rather creepy. Of course the first person I searched for was myself and then I got an email saying someone looked using my email address. Eek. Good thing I didn't start looking for random friends.

Geez this site is SCARY. I think I should have read the comments before I searched for my ex-es. I agree, this could bring out the 'stalker' in people. Luckily, I couldn't find myself on there. Sheesh.. I'm never using this website ever again.

Thanks for all the comments and for the very VERY helpful FYI on entering someone's email. I've updated the post to let everyone know. Play it safe and just enter first and last names!
It found my Facebook and my MySpace, but I also have a YouTube, Livejournal, Last FM, Vox, and an Imeem account that it didn't find. Granted, I don't use half of those, but still. :)
Ah, it did find my Imeem, Livejournal, and Last FM but I had to type in my usernames.

I like this site although it's a little addicting to look up people(not to metion a little weird.) I did find some old friends and saw what they look like six years later - they all look great.
