Website of the Day: Rotten Neighbors

Updated 06/22/09 3:11 AM · Posted by GeekSugar · 12 comments

Moving? Want to make sure your new neighbors aren't going to be complete freaks? With the website Rotten Neighbor, you can now check for bad neighbors before you move — cause we all know not all neighborhoods can be like the one from Mister Rogers! Featured on lifehacker, all you have to do is type in the area code where you want to do a search for nasty neighbors (or neighbor 'hoods' for that matter) and a google map will display all the submissions from people forewarning them about their new neighbors. To add to their database, just click "contribute to this map." Love it! To learn how to post your favorite sites to the Website of the Day group, just read more

I know that this long list looks scary, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a snap the second time around.

  1. First of all, join the Website of the Day group
  2. Click "Create and Share!" on the left hand side
  3. Choose "Blog"
  4. Give your photo a Title
  5. Leave the category as "general"
  6. Change the channel to "technology and gadgets"
  7. Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Website of the Day")
  8. Click on the "Add Image" link below the "body" box
  9. A popup window will happen - click on "Browse" to find your image on your computer
  10. Once you have the image chosen, click "Submit"
  11. The popup will show you your image, choose size: "normal" - if you want, you can give it a title (which will show up as a caption)
  12. Click "Insert" and the popup will go away
  13. Your "body" box will now have some text in it. Leave it as is. If you want to add some text before the picture telling me why you love the website, do it before the code that has appeared.
  14. Click Submit

So join the Website of the Day group and share information about all of your favorite sites! Yours just might end up on the geeksugar homepage!

I can see that being good and bad. People might use it to slam eachother just to be mean.

If you own your home, why would you want to contribute to this and rat out bad neighbors? When you go to see your house later, someone might see your own post about awful neighbors and decide not to buy your house. (assuming it were to become something everyone used)

I can't believe people actually use names. OMG
What a great idea! I looked up my neighborhood and thankfully there are no annoying neighbors. There are a few in the vicinity though! Interesting idea!

It's an interesting idea. But I think any website that invites people to talk bad about others can never end well...

The economy sucks anyway. So you're not getting your value. If you know there's gunfire you don't just let your fellow man walk into it without telling them. Think of it as doing a service for a person. The term "rat" doesn't make sense it's a pact created amongst thugs, criminals, etc.. If you're a garbage neighbor we don't have a deal that you shouldn't be told about. It's very important. Of course, if you've never had one you wouldn't know. s
