So you may visit Hulu for your favorite TV shows and Fancast for free online movies but what about the smart stuff, like lectures and academic courses? I've already touched on iTunes' free educational content section of the site called iTunes U. But now there's a new website called Academic Earth which offers over 2,395 lectures (and courses) from educational institutions as well as guest lecturers, all for free!

Found a cool website you want to share? To learn how to post your favorite websites to our Website of the Day group, read more.

I know that this long list looks scary, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a snap the second time around.

  1. First of all, join the Website of the Day group.
  2. Click the pink "Share" menu on the top left side of the page.
  3. Choose "Blog" and "Regular Post."
  4. Give your story a "Title."
  5. Fill in the "Body" with a link to your favorite website and the reasons why you love it.

Academic Earth is great because it puts various lectures and courses from Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, and Berkeley all on one website, though each university has its own website with a much greater selection of lectures (the exception is Yale which puts all of its lectures on AcademicEarth). Stanford only puts its lectures on iTunes U, which podcasts lectures from many universities and events. Though of a different nature than AcademicEarth, VideoLectures.net, Fora.tv, and Ted.com also put out great lectures and speeches from a wide range of topics, they are all highly recommended. If you want to see some great investigative journalism, you should check out PBS Frontline online. There are other similar websites worth mentioning, such as BigThink and YouTube EDU, but they are not as good in quality in my opinion. Anyone know of any other good ones?
