Video Game Consoles Throughout Time

It's time to pay some respect to the video game consoles of the past 30 years, which paved the way for all the high-tech consoles we use today — hello, the Wii?! Isn't it ironic how each and every one of these consoles was a leader of its time? I mean come on, when the first Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) came out in 1985, it was the best-selling gaming console of its time (selling 62 million units worldwide). And since then, consoles have evolved beyond our wildest dreams. Enjoy!

That Atari 2600 brought back some memories. I still have my original play station, but I don't play it since I have a PS2. I'm waiting until after E3 to get either a 360 or PS3.

sumire, as a fellow rpg-er I totally agree re. the PS3. Actually I'm a little disappointed with the lack of decent rpgs for any of the current gen consoles. I've been making do by catching up on all the rpgs I haven't played yet on the PS2. And alliallialli, Ocarina of Time was awesome! It was the game that renewed my console gaming addiction. I rented it and an N64 and then HAD to buy it so I could finish it! Then came the psOne, then ps2, then xbox, then ds, then wii ... (^_^)

I had GameBoys and that was it. My parents were more a fan of computer games and that was fine by me!

I remember my first gaming experience EVER to be Smurfs on Atari 2600. I was about 3. :) My mother says we had an Atari Pong console when I was little, but I don't remember it. So, here's my list of game consoles I have earned, or currently do. I've kept most everything, since I'm a bit of a collector. :) I also picked up some cool old school stuff when I lived in Japan for CHEAP! NES Famicom with a Disk Drive (if you know what this is, you really know your video games) Sega Genesis and a Mega Drive Sega CDX (which is a Sega CD with a Mega Drive all in one) GameBoy GameBoy Color GameBoy Advance DS PSP Neo Geo Pocket Color (for as few games as it had, they were ALL good!) Neo Geo CD (No cart machine though...they're not too bad, but the games in Japan are STILL ridiculous!) Sega Saturn (A US and Japanese one) Sega Dreamcast (A US one and the pink Japanese Hello Kitty one) PSX PS2 PS3 GameCube Super NES Just need a Wii...might actually buy a 360 one of these days. So far I'm disappointed with the lack of games for the PS3, but that's because I'm an RPG nerd. :)

Oh wow. Though we didn't own it, I played the original 'Pong'. Granted, I was a wee one, but I remember my parents thinking it was the most amazing thing ever. And it 'twas a glorious Christmas when we got a Coleco Gemini. Same gen as the Atari 2600 but it played Gemini games AND Atari 2600 games.

I had an Atari (2600, I think) a NES, a Sega Genesis (this thing was awesome) and an old school Gameboy (that I let an ex trade-in at Toys r Us for credit- why??????). Now this geek girl has a PS2, a Wii, and a Ninetendo DS (I was an early adopter, so no DS Lite, unfortunately.) I love dusting off the NES and Sega, though the Atari is sadly inoperable, though there are plenty of ROMs out there to play. I loves the video games. :)

I started from SNES, then later buy a NES. Then come Nintendo 64, GameCube and Wii. On the portable consoles i just had a Game Boy Color Lime Green, i loved it! Now i´m on buying a Nintendo DS and a classic Game Boy (that bold one). And yes, i´m a Nintendo addict!

I was the first kid on the block with the original Nintendo! Come to think of it, I'm really not sure why my parents bought it for me.. it's so not like them in retrospect. Wish I still had it :/

we've got a nintendo 64, and that's it. and that's all we'll ever have. no upgrade for us. and that was given to us. amazing how it changes thru the time though.
