USB Email Notifier: Love It or Leave It?

If you miss the "you've got mail" of the olden, dial-up AOL days then you're not alone. I liked the reassurance upon starting up (!) the Internet that my five to ten minutes of modem time wasn't all for naught, and that I did, in fact, have mail.

For those who've never really gotten over that ego-stroking email announcement, here's the USB Email Notifier (no pricing info yet), a cute little envelope icon that lights up in red, blue, green, or white. You'll never miss a new message, but be forewarned; a dark email notifier could make you as bummed as a Meg Ryan without a Tom Hanks.

I have a gmail notifier that does me just fine. and really, I kind of like checking my mail at my own pace...

I just use Google Desktop's little icon. It's done the job for me just fine so far, and it's a freebie.

I think this is fine for people who really use e-mail as a forum for socialization. I don't, so won't be getting one.

It's cute, but since checking your email now takes nowhere near the amount of time it used to with dial-up, this seems rather pointless.

I totally remember those minutes of anticipation. Before AOL, we had prodigy, and I remember hoping that little white envelope would be there in the corner of the screen.
