Track the Swine Flu Outbreak on Google Maps

Unless you've been living a tech-free existence for the past week, then you've probably been hearing a lot about the swine influenza A virus. The outbreak has already taken 149 lives in Mexico and more confirmed cases have been reported in other parts of the US. On Twitter, the topic is already receiving over 10,000 Tweets Per Hour as people micro-blog their concerns and questions about the disease. Wondering if the virus is going to become a full pandemic or if it's reaching your neck of the woods?

Lifehacker has revealed that there's a Google Mashup that tracks the flu worldwide. You can access the H1N1 Swine Flu map here and there's a legend to the left for what the color of markers mean.

Recently swine flu has become a very powerful threat for the people all over the world. It is first diagnosed in Mexico and now it has spread in many parts of the world. Swine influenza which is also called swine flu, hog flu or pig flu is an infection of a host animal by any one of several specific types of microscopic organisms called ‘swine flu virus’.

Has anyone considered that this could be an act of terrorism? There's a lot that the government and CDC does not want us to know to avoid major panic. Bin Laden said that there would be another attack much bigger than the twin towers. What if the terrorists have in their possession viruses (and anti-viruses) that they can easily contaminate an animal or human and it spreads deadly diseases. Why start in Mexico? Why not, it's easy with the corrupt government there you can do anything. And this virus has now mutated into a combo of human, bird, and pork flu (new name for it is H1N1). This is going to be worse than the Spanish Influenza in 1918 that killed approx. 20 to 100 million people all over the world from 1918 to 1920! Is this symbolic that history repeats itself 70 years later? The Spanish Influenza was also called H1N1 and I'm certain this current flu will also last years, it will kill many more millions of people and will further damage the world's economy causing a meltdown that no man can remedy. Have we read the prophesies in the oldest book on earth, the Bible? Luke 21:11 states "and there will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another pestilences and food shortages, and there will be fearful sights..."; Luke 21:25-26 states "Also, there will be signs ...on the earth anguish of nations, not knowing the way out ...while men become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth..."; Matthew 24:21-22 states "for then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world's beginning until now .... unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved..." Were these prophesies written a long time ago warning us of the end of days, showing us how to survive it and telling us what is in store for us in a new world?

The reason everybody is freaking out!!!!!!!!!!!! YES its true 35000 people die each year from the flu. most all of those people would be dead within a year or 2 anyhow and we no that number year in and year out is constant. We know that form of virus. What makes this such a big news story and hence W.H.O. and the CDC freaking out is the fact that its a new virus. Never before seen killing 30 something year olds. So not that this will become a 50,000,000 or a 100,000,000 dead situation but it will be a new virus that does eventually kill that many.....Keep in mind this is not the flu season and if this sticks around and mutates, watch out come September and October.

Wow, way to care about the people in other countries. I honestly think that it doesn't matter who or what country is to blame. It's spreading. We need to take necessary precautions to end it! Also, they need to stop calling it the swine flu since it hasn't been found in any pigs and it hasn't been spread through the eating of pork. Places like Egypt (no known cases) are slaughtering all pigs just because of the name. Yes we need to take precautions, but come on. That's ridiculous, unless that was what is causing this, but it isn't.

first of all...I would not book a week anywhere near mexico right now..2nd: I agree we should use compasion, quit blaming, and find a way to stop the masses from freaking out..but...I am concerned that our goverment seems to have let this slip on in,.....what are the terroists thinking??? easy target for germ warfare? We look foolish!..and weak.... And thats NOT how America should Look.."we as a nation" need to get it together! and write to our congress and elected officials! any thoughts?

Actually, the first case has yet to be definitively determined. Keep in mind that we are dealing with a virus that has mutated from three distinct species.

I just dont understand. Relax people...I wish they would balance the news right now with some cold hard solid reason. Tell people how many people have the regular flu, TB or other per to per infections. Relax. Breath. Wash your hands and push on. We have GOT to get some solid reason in the press it's freaking people out.

I dont think it is anyones fault, i agree with Juliette. The best thing to do is take precaution and look out for symptoms. theres no place for blame and it doesn't solve anything. Will keep updated on the UK. Hope fully it wont get as bad as Mexico. :-(

The first case was reported in the US. So yes, YOUR government should have closed the borders so the virus was confined to YOUR territory and the CDC could take care of the situation. It's incredible such a lack of compassion from your part! Stop watching movies and start thinking about others, that's what compassion is about.

Things are bad here in Mexico City but people are being as careful as we can be and the city is like a ghost town, I have to admit that I haven't left my house because of fear of getting infected. I think that the best thing people can do now is just take precaution and hit the hospital as soon as they get some kind of symptom. Another thing is not to panic, the disease is curable when detected early.

I am not sure why Mexico didn't report this to the CDC when more than 50 people came down with this. I understand the CDC is an American agency, however, they owe us that much and more since many people from Mexico come here to use our welfare services (many times illegally). Our government should have closed all borders (Mexican and Canada) and make the United States a no-fly zone. (Unless it was within the U.S.). By not doing this- things will get worse and it will eventually spread world-wide (if it hasn't already). It really wouldn't shock me that something like the "Reaper" or "T-Virus" could actually happen and that one of these days I'll get attacked by a zombie on my way to warm up my car.
