The first "dark restaurant" in China opened in December and reactions to the idea of the unusual dining experience are varied. The restaurant, which is located in Beijing, has its interior painted completely in black. Customers are greeted by a lit entrance hall and are escorted by waiters wearing night vision goggles into the pitch dark dining room to help them find their seats. Flashlights, mobile phones, and even lit watches are prohibited while in this area.
The concept originated in Europe, but has quickly found a huge international techie-following because of the night-vision tie in and unusual lighting concept. So, is it geek chic, totally geeky, or just a great way to experience something different.

I would want to try it. Watch, if a celebrity goes into one in hollywood, they can escape some paparazzi for a little bit (or will the paparazzi find night vision cameras to capture them eating?)

3Sounds totally pointless and not worth the hassle of having to leave your cell phone and watch behind. Plus, I like to see what I'm eating.

7there is one in London called Dans Le Noir, and the menu is a bit pricy, but they explain the whole concept. I am going to give it a shot if I ever go to london.

8We have one of those here in Berlin since a few years, but it didn't come from the geek idea. The waiters are all blind and the founders wanted to give an idea of being blind.
9wow! That's actually a really great concept! I can't imagine what it must feel like to be blind?
10It's an interesting idea, and I'd probably try it once... but I kind of have this thing about seeing what I'm eating. What if they give you something wrong and you're allergic to it? or if you have an aversion for peppers and they give you some without you knowing it.
11I'd probably sneak in a tiny flashlight, just to make sure it was ok.
