The Week in Geek
Apple once again dominated the headlines this week, but unfortunately it began with a bit of a sad twist. However, there was no shortage of other exciting stories and developments to fill up my RSS feed. Here, a look at some of the top stories this week that you may have missed.
- The week started with big news: Steve Jobs announced he'd be taking another medical leave to focus on his health. Though even though he's no longer running the company, he had plenty to say after Apple reported an incredibly impressive sales quarter that included selling 10 million iPod Touch models and 7.3 million iPads.
- The Verizon iPhone is on the way, and in an effort to woo new business, Verizon is offering $200 gift cards to recently new customers who purchase their new iPhones at full price before Feb. 28.
- The iPhone machine never stops turning though, and plenty of people (including us!) speculate that a completely redesigned iPhone 5 is coming June 23.
- Finally, a caffeine boost — which you can now procure with geeky ease! Starbucks announced a program that allows you to pay for your coffee with your phone. We live in the future!
- In more Apple news, rumor speculation ran rampant this week, from news that the white iPhone is (finally!) coming to more speculation about the iPad 2. Exciting stuff.
- Amid the iPhone mania, AT&T updated pricing plans. If you've had it with the rate increases (sigh), you could always attempt to turn your iPod Touch into a phone.
- Also this week, the Nintendo 3DS got an official price and release date; if you preorder one at Walmart, you'll get a free case.
- If you can't buy 'em, join 'em! After Groupon turned down its acquisition offer, Google announced it would be developing its own deal-based site. (We still prefer FreshGuide.)
