In a recent print ad for American Express, Tina Fey was captured in true form with her daughter Alice Zenobia in what I'm assuming is her home office or the world's messiest set design! After spotting this ad on lifehacker, I'm starting to think that Fey may not be as geeky as we thought. With so many post-its, papers and notebooks, one can only assume that she hasn't made the leap into online organizing just yet. At least she's taking a step in the right direction with the MacBook, but someone needs to teach her how to make her life paperless! With new services like Twitter and Google Doc's she can surely swap those post-its for a clutter-free work space.
Maybe I'm underestimating her geekiness, because in the latest issue of Geek Monthly, Jimmy Fallon confesses that Tina is in fact a 'geek.' "I think Tina is a geek superhero," says Fallon. She's very smart which I guess you can classify as a geek thing, and she doesn't have 20/20 vision, which also adds to it if we're gonna break it down. Everyone has their quirkiness and she embraces it, and that's what makes her cool." Fey goes on to admit her geek is "pretty deep. I will say the character I play on the show (Liz Lemon), she's a deeper geek, though. She has better Star Wars knowledge than I have by about 40 percent." Source

Her ad is so cute!
I love Tina Fey. The baby and the macbook alone is a great photo.
I think she doesn't need to be into her computer to that extent in order to be a geek. I don't use my computer to write my task list or post its. I just can't think that way. I have my journal that I write my todo lists in because it helps me think out loud. I am still obsessed with having the latest technology but I don't think that having a messy desk with papers makes you not a geek.
love her. she's so smart and sassy. i'm glad 30Rock is doing well (at least awards wise), because imho it's one of the funniest shows on TV.
I agree with skinnyMarie, being technology obsessed is just one part of being a geek, and not a requirement. Maybe she just hasn't discovered an efficient way to replace her paper system. Looking at her post-its, it looks like she wants to view them all at once, which is hard to do with a computer sometimes.
i love her esp. in Mean Girls!
Cute ad!!
That baby is adorable.
I totally love this ad! I loved Tina on SNL and now 30 Rock, and this ad just makes her even more likeable.
The lack of organizational skills reminds me of my room...minus the kid....
as for papers all over the place making you not a geek - i don't agree with that. Personally - all my papers span in a radius from my computer which is where I do the majority of my work - near my computer so I can look at my computer and do work at the same time (I need a distraction to do work - I'm kind of weird that way - it's harder for me to do things in a completely silent room without distractions).
i love Tina Fey.. along with this ad. However, I don't consider it geeky to have notes on the computer rather than on paper. I personally prefer notes on paper... I know I'll look at those. Computer I'm not so sure about
This is such a cool ad! Tina is amazing and Alice is adorable!
Haha, cute! I love Tina Fey.
I believe that Post Its and random notes in general are typical of writers' offices. All the ideas are on a board for anyone to look at or contribute to or trash. Everything's organic and changeable. I'm sure her life is quite organized in that laptop. But when you're part of a, let's say, 10 person writing team, it's all about being in the moment.
Love Tina Fey!!
i hope you still think i'm geeky enough Geek - while i do love technology and all that, there is no substitute for paper in some ways! i write real letters rather than email a lot of the time (i like to pretend it is because i am on the computer too much already but i usually end up writing letters while i am surfing...waiting for all 20 links to open up. hee hee) i love post-its! i make myself paper lists all the time because i enjoy writing, but i totally see what you mean: Tina Fey has way too many post-its and bits of paper around. i don't know how she manages to keep things straight!
I had professors who also swore by using a similar post-it system for writing their books and dissertations. As much as I use my computer there is still a lot I do with paper. I find it easier to read and make notes when reading material on paper. I don't even want to know how much I spent on printer ink and paper during grad school.
I miss Tina on SNL, she has such a wicked sense of humor!
I'm geeky myself, but I'm also very visual, so I use post-its, colored pens, bulletin boards, etc to help keep me organized and thinking clearly. I use my PC for lots of things, and to help with the clutter, but it's necessary for me. Granted, my clutter is not quite that bad, and I'm a little more organized with my chaos (read: paper in colored folders instead of on the floor) but it's not too different.
