I'm a devout smartphone lover now, often espousing the virtues of the iPhones and the BlackBerries, but I remember the days of having a regular cell phone and thinking — I didn't need all that "junk." I just need a cell phone for calls, I thought. How young and naive I was. Then of course, I wanted a camera on my phone, so I hit that up. And it sounded nice to have email whenever I wanted too, so I started to succumb.
By the time the iPhone came out, with its gorgeous Internet interface, touchscreen, and integrated iPod, I was first in line (well, first in line when it died down a week or so later).

I can't imagine life without a smartphone now and could absolutely never go back, but I still hear the same things now that I thought before — either that you don't need "fancy" features, or worse, I know girls who say a smartphone is too "high tech" for them, which I hate! When did accessibility and convenience become equivalent with high tech? I hate overly complicated gadgets, and I think the iPhone and Blackberry are totally not.
So I want to know, do you have a smartphone or a regular cell phone? And is there something keeping you from getting a smartphone, besides the price?

Gorgeous
I have a smartphone and I would never go back to just a plain ol regular phone. Smartphones make your life so much easier and a lot of times your paying the same rates that you do with just a crappy phone that only makes phonecalls....I learned that the hard way. I can be out and on a whim want to go to the movies, a museum, or a play and right on my phone I can order tickets. I can't count how many times I've been lost and my phone was there to bail me out. I've researched things like comparing tv prices while at best buy right on my phone or car prices through edmunds.com while window shopping...right on my phone. I've gotten important information sent through email that I needed instantly right on my phone. The list just goes on and on. Smartphones are one of the best things ever invented! Oh and I'm typing this up on my phone also!
1Oh and I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten to set up a show to tape on TIVO and I used my phone to tell TIVO to tape a show for me. Its fantastic!
2I'm with you hotstuff, my iPhone has been a savior! Went downtown to a club to meet people, to find out that the club was no longer there and that it was now in a completely different part of town! And of course when friends are inside, their phones don't work and so what do you do? Click on Google Maps, Locate you/Locate the new club, and Bam! Maps, driving directions, phone numbers, it doesn't get much better:) And if you are bored as hell sitting, waiting for say the 25 min oil change that now is taking 2 hours...pulling up a movie on the screen or websurfing is just a joy.
3I have the Dash, I had the wing, it was just a little big with a slide out keypad and a touch screen. The dash is lighter and also has a qwerty keypad and a lot of the same features.
4I like playing with my sister's iPhone...for a few minutes. (Google Maps is a cool feature, when it works.) It's tiresome. It's not really any good in my area because we barely get reception. (And I live right near SF, go figure.) This is the very reason I have a regular Verizon Motorola. I can make calls and text from wherever. Expensive iPhone stuck with inflexible expensive AT&T? Not really. What good are all the goodies if they only work sometimes, like at Starbucks, or in the city, or, ha, at the Apple Store? Beware that the iPhone's usefulness depends on where you live and spend time.
5I have a regular cell phone but I want a smartphone.
6I don't have a smartphone... yet. I need something that I can use in my house. I may upgrade my iPod touch to an iPhone if I like what the Enterprise extras are, and if I have access to them. Otherwise, I don't know which I'll get.
I sorta like the Dash, but I despise Windows Mobile.
7Maybe a Blackberry?
Right now I have a Muziq but I have been lusting after a Blackberry Pearl for months now!!
8IF only I could afford a nice smartphone! Unfortunately, I'm stuck with a cellphone that doesn't even take pictures.
I dislike the company I'm with, but they are asking for a crazy fee to break my contract off early. One of these days, tho . . .
9My blackberry is my savior, I can't live without it.. I'm thinking of getting an iPhone when new updates come out(whenever that is..) so I know I'm getting my money's worth..
10I have a regular cell phone now, but my next will be again a smartphone!
11Just got a Palm Centro. LOVE it! I could never go back. And FTR the centro doesn't operate on windows mobile.
12I have a regular cellphone. I have a separate digital camera and a PDA. Sure, it would be nice to have all of that in one. But the price really is the biggest hindrance and I would've already snagged an iphone if it wasn't for their marriage to godawful AT&T.
13I love love love my iphone. I love that I can text, go online and get directions all in one shot. It's awesome.
14i have a mobile/cell phone which is pretty regular. it has a good camera though.
i'm thinking of downgrading my phone to one which only texts and calls and getting an iPod touch as my media device.
or buying an iPhone/blackberry.
i can't decide.
15I am obsessively in love with my iPhone.
I listen to music like any ipod, hear my phone ring in the earbuds, answer with one click. Google maps at my fingertips, weather forecasts, email access everywhere, texting is so easy. I also started to use the google calendar and access it from anywhere on the iphone... I live in the middle of nowhere, and use it all the time and have had no problems...
16i have a razr that's over two years old. i'm out of my t-mobile contract so i'm trying to decide what to get next. i like t-mobile but i also really want an iphone.
17i dont have one... but for price reasons.
18My boyfriend has a t-mobile Dash.
He says that the windows mobile sucks on it. He would prefer a blackberry or iphone... not as easy to use.
He'd get the blackberry, but it's too expensive (even though it's made where he lives.. Waterloo, Ontario) and the iPhone isn't available in Canada.
Also keep in mind, plans in Toronto are insanely expensive (My reasons for not having one.. else I would!!!).
For 1GB of data it's 65 bucks a month... JUST for the data, on top of the phone plan (so say a $30 phone plan... plus the $60... $90 a month). We don't even have unlimited data plans-- like some of the iPhone plans. Rogers (our major cell phone company) doesn't have an unlimited plan--- boooerns.
I've got an LG voyager. It's not a smartphone but I can browse the web on it and text and whatever. But I want a smartphone, just not sure if I'd use everything on it.
19I live in Toronto and have a Blackberry Curve. and LOVE IT.
20I don't use it to go online really, but I do love love love the push email and how easy it makes my life re: having my cell phone, email, address book, alarm clock all in one.
Also, the battery life on my Curve is AMAZING.
I'm with Rogers for reference and they now have an unlimited email plan for $15/month for current customers.
i HAD a smartphone-a BlackBerry that i was addicted to and then I lost it and realized i really didn't need it and was getting to caught up in it. They are great when you have then but not necessar
21I have an iPhone.
22Too much information. I rather just have a plain cell for now.
23I have a cell phone, a basic phone. I keep it in the car for emergencies. I don't like being on call for everyone and don't have a need for immediate communication/information.
I know that the cell will help to call 911, a friend if I get lost or Roadside.
Heck, I'm a hermit and don't even have a landline.
24I presume a SideKick counts as a smart phone? Even though, in retrospect, it seems like a teenagers' phone. I really preferred the screen size on the LX when that came out last fall, so I reserved in advance and picked it up the day it was released.
25I absolutely heart my iPhone. It ties my personal and business lives together flawlessly. Syncs with Outlook, inserts Google and I'm good to go.
26I have an iPhone.
(It's new!)
27I have a regular cell but have been wanting to get another phone.
28I'm thinking of going the smartphone route. Of course, I'm also keeping the iPhone in mind.
I'm having a little trouble deciding what to get honestly.
I have a regular phone. They do just fine with me. I don't like the fact that people can reach me at any time, etc. I think I would get caught up in the phone-ness of the all feature phone, so, I'm staying away from it.
That is, until I get an important job that will buy me one.
29I prefer a smartphone. I can't live without it.
30I LOVE MY iPHONE XOXOXOXOX
31I have an IPhone and I love how it simplifies my life! It more than meets my expectations and I love it, it is wonderful.
32i have a 'regular' phone but i badly want a smart phone i'm holding out for a phone thats coming out here hopefully the second half of this year!! i'm a tech geek =D
33I have a regular cell phone, and I barely use it as it is. I can't even bring my cell phone into work, so most of the time it just sits in my car. And I'm a hermit and I don't have enough going on where I'd need to use it as a planner, so I definitely don't need a smartphone just yet. I probably wouldn't use even half of the features. For right now, I only need my phone for occasional calls, text messages, and in case of emergency. If I have a lot of extra money (which is likely not to happen for MANY years) and if my needs change, I'd consider getting one.
34I have a SmartPhone, an iPhone. If left to my own devices, I would have stuck to a regular phone as I never saw any use for the myriad of features that a Blackberry offers.
However, my office gave me an iPhone, so I use it. And it's pretty cool. On trips, Google Maps is indispensible. I used it nonstop to navigate a large city and find landmarks and restaurants. When I'm stuck waiting somewhere like the doctor's office, I often find myself taking out the phone and checking my email or surfing the web.
Now I don't think I could ever switch back. Granted, AT&T contracts are expensive, but I ride on my mom's family plan and just pay for my portion and the $20 for data service. $30 a month isn't all that bad.
When the AT&T contract with Apple runs out, I'll probably
switch over to Verizon if it's an option.
35The Smartphone and Iphone are both pretty good.
36I used to have smartphones (blackjack, tilt, treo), but switched back to a regular cellphone. I can still check my email and blog all the time minus the bulky phone.
37I'm torn. I have a regular cellphone - and I despise that it has a camera. I generally feel like cellphone cameras are a scourge of the earth - they take hideous pictures and it's just another excuse for people to be annoying. If it were an option to have a phone that didn't have a camera (but wasn't old and huge) I would.
38That being said, if I had an iPhone, etc. I would definitely use it for email, looking up directions or restaurants without a problem. I guess I equate smartphone with computer more than cellphone?
I have a Blackjack II and love it! I've had smartphones for my last two phones and can't go back at this point!
39I have a regular cell with all the bells and whistles a reg. cell can have (I will admit my camera on it is awesome). I do want a smartphone though. I'm up for upgrade come May and will be upgrading to a smartphone. I'm all up in the air - iphone, blackberry or palm centro. I am LOVING the look of the palm centro in white though. Decisions, decisions. I would love an iPhone, but my iPod is fairly new and I just can't justify the iPhone's price. At least with the centro or the blackberry I'll get a discount. AT&T doesn't offer an upgrade discount on the iPhone.
40I got a BlackBerry in December, it was my Christmas present to myself. Now I can't imagine living without it! It's come in handy countless times, I'll never go back to a regular ole cellphone!
41I have a blackberry & a regular cellphone. But only til July. Then it'll just be the BB. That's how bad I wanted a blackberry, I got the family plan to get the discount.
42I currently have a Nokia N95. It's my fifth smart phone, all Nokia's of course. I love the features and can't live without them now. I do have a Sony Z610 as a backup phone and it a RSS reader and few more features, but it's nothing like my N95.
43I live in New Zealand, where having a smartphone makes you a 'someone' the iphone hasn't even been released here, so ther're only your average crackberry's.
44I personally just have a Nokia 6610 which gets me around, it has a camera and video, which is all I (think I) need for when i've forgotten my digi cam. And with 2000 txts per month for just $10, life is sweet!
By the way, I'm a teenager...
I have a regular cellphone because I have an iPaq and a notebook already.
45REGULAR PHONE! I wish you could choose to leave certain features OUT of a phone. I absolutely HAAAAATE it when people text me... I tell them not to, but they do anyway, and then I have to pay for their stupid messages whether I read them or not!
46I love my Centro, but I'm not too in love with its web browser. It does the job though, and I have Microsoft Office.
