ShadyURL Changes URLs Into Hilarious, Sketchy Links

Website of the Day: ShadyURL

This hilarious submission comes from my pal PetSugar, who's had me laughing all day:

Websites like TinyURL are a lifesaver for me, not just for Twitter purposes but also 'cause my mother has not yet mastered the "copy and paste a non-hyperlink into the browser" task (so she types in EVERY. SINGLE. LETTER. AND. NUMBER.). While that site shortens a link to something totally innocuous with letters and numbers, ShadyURL does something much, MUCH more special.

When I received my first such shortened link earlier today (in an IM with "Isn't this so hot?!"), I was scared to click — sounded definitely NSFW — but, always the risk taker, I clicked anyway. It went to some fancy blender contraption from Target. This is not what the words in the URL implied. At all.

As it turns out, entering any link into the box at ShadyURL results in a sometimes shorter, but always sketchier new link to add in emails, Twitter, IMs, or on Facebook. The slogan — "Don't just shorten your URL, make it suspicious and frightening." — doesn't do it justice, so check it out and before long, you'll be sending off shadified links to unsuspecting pals, too!
