Via their upcoming film The Spirit, stars Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes have teamed up with the Environmental Media Association to promote the importance of cell phone recycling to reduce CO2 emissions.

The spots start running today on the Answer the Call website, with the ladies in character as Sand Saref and Silken Floss, respectively. I was already a big proponent of cell phone recycling, but glamming it up with two of the hottest celebrities ever? Irresistible.

Good for them. This is a great cause, and a nice way to promote their movie.
1you know, i think that this is an under-promoted activity that should be brought to light. we all want the newest and coolest phone and what do we do with the old ones? i can say for myself that i have a collection of a LOT of phones that i just don't throw out. i think that years and years ago, i had taken my old phones to the police station or something like that to recycle/donate them, but that was a long time ago and i have a nice collection now. i hope that more people realize that there's a benefit to recycling them, and maybe it just takes some celeb endorsement to get it done.
2many post offices have small postage-paid envelopes to mail old electronics like digital cameras and cell phones. even places like office depot will take some old electronics, although they may charge you.
