Cool Capture: Doors of Dublin

This image was submitted to our Cool Capture group by community member ciaokatie.

This past year I was studying abroad in Italy. For Christmas break, we went to Ireland as one of our trips and stayed in Dublin. One of the first things we noticed were the many colorful doors. There are two stories as to why Dublin has so many bright and colorful doors. The first is that women used to be annoyed with their drunken husbands entering the wrong house, so they picked a bright color and painted their doors so the men wouldn't be mistaken. The second is that when Queen Victoria died, England ordered Ireland (still under British rule) to paint their doors black in mourning. Ireland rebelled, and now have these awesome doors for which Dublin is famous.

Taken with Canon Digital Rebel XTi with a 18-55mm lens. Edited in Photoshop.
