Petticoat 5 - The First Computer For Women

TeamSugar member Liron brought this video to my attention and I figured all you geeky women would have a thing or two to say about it.

The video is actually from an episode of BBC America's Look Around You show, in which the team unveils the world's first computer for women, the Petticoat 5 - with tissue dispenser and emery board space bar - and meet its inventor, played by Belinda Stewart-Wilson. My pick for a computer for women? The MacBook Pro. Still not sure I think this is funny. At all.

It's satire. It's actually attacking the very idea of products "for women"(in the patronizing way it used to occur), the comparative uselessness of such products, and the way the media presents anything pertaining to women. Note that the product has no real practical function--basically it's a vanity with a screen--and look at the end, when it's mentioned its only program is a lipstick color chart, Patricia's face. You should also keep in mind that this is supposed to be taking place in 1980.(the creators of this series are geniuses at detail) It's also in particular a UK bent here. Magazines for women and girls back then over there were usually nothing more than ways to get the readers to buy deodorant products.

That was friggin hilarious! Belinda Stewart-Wilson? I've never heard of her, but she was hysterical. "No, not f, s. No not x, s." Just all of it. I could see how you might be offended, though. I got pretty angry a little before about that Dove satire that gigglesugar posted, but I guess I found this sketch a little funnier. :)

I thought the video was pretty funny! It's just ... kind of British. =) But it was still pretty funny. I love the line where the inventor said, "well I suppose you could. But I don't wear makeup."

aww, i think that video was funny! it's obviously a satire. they pick on guys and ladies, too, so they're equal opportunity comedians.
