This is really a common problem. Actually you can go much further and organize all of your items. There is a startup called Unioncy http://unioncy.com that helps you do home inventory really easy. It provides all the tools you need to categorise your belongings. There is no need to take photos of your items, as you can simply search in the database of over 80mil products and catalog everything you have an a few clicks. It's pretty awesome, you should try.

My suggestion here would be "get a harmony remote" ;) one remote is so much better than 3 or 4...

I keep mine in a vintage bowl that's sort of crescent shaped, and I love the way it looks on my coffee tables so much that I don't feel like I have to hide the remotes!
