Apple's music recommendation social network called it quits in September, in favor of Facebook integration in iTunes 11. Ping users could follow artists and see postings from friends or musicians they liked.

Successor: Music Streaming Services — while Ping never gained much traction among music lovers, the answer to music-based social networking lies in music-streaming services like Rdio, Spotify, and 8tracks. When using Rdio, a right-hand bar displays what song or playlist your friends are listening to, and Spotify will publish that info right to Facebook (unless you elect to privatize your listening activity). Internet radio sites like 8tracks provide platforms where music lovers can craft their own stations and playlists to share.
