Summly is an iOS news reader app that launched in December 2011. The app had a star-studded cast of investors, including Ashton Kutcher, Stephen Fry, and the Yoko Ono.
Instead of offering users a full article, Summly uses a genetic algorithm to create a 400-word summary of the story and displays it in a mobile format. A tap reveals a longer summary, and a swipe down takes readers to the full article.
Since the Yahoo acquisition, Summly has been pulled from the App Store, but in a statement, Nick reassured users that the technology behind Summly will be coming to Yahoo products soon.
