According to Twitter cofounder Evan Williams, the service is poised to reach 1 billion users sometime in the near future. To help it get there, Twitter has been rolling out updates, from its recent redesign to a just-announced events feature.

Twitter Events will track keywords that automatically associate themselves with certain events. My guess is that they'll start with huge meet-ups like major sports games, music festivals, or awards shows, likely filtered by location.
Twitter's Biz Stone hinted at the new feature in a brief interview but didn't elaborate on its future or a projected date for its launch. It's fitting, though, given the amount of tweets generated by viewers and participants of such major events, especially given Facebook's recent launch of Groups, a new feature aimed to revamp the way Events on Facebook are handled, making any information you receive more relevant.
