I got my hands on the new MacBook Pro first thing this morning and saying everyone around me is gushing and jealous is an understatement. Unlike last year's model, the new MacBook Pro has a mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display. I am a little shocked to report that there seems to be a visible difference between the two displays, and it's not just due to the fact that my old laptop is covered in fingerprints and a bit of dust. The screen seems much brighter.
The new MacBook Pro's mercury-free status is a huge jump for Apple, who has been a consistent low ranker on Greenpeace's Electronics Guide and has taken some blows for not being as green as it can be. I'd write more, but I'm kinda busy obsessing over my new love.

The MacBook Pro comes in 15 and 17 inch models and features a 2.2GHz or 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The models are one inch and either 5.4 or 6.8 pounds (depending on size). Prices start at $1999.

It will be weeks before I have mine. Which model did you get? I think the $1999 one is super pimped for the price, 2GB's of RAM!! I'm a little bummed they didn't do the LED display on the 17" model. Not that I ever want to lug around a laptop that big again, but for the green factor it would have been nice.

I have a macbook and am quite happy with it but its nice to have my
roomate's macbook pro around too. the larger screen is nicer for watching stuff on. the new graphics card on the macbook pro you have is a nice addition!

WHICH screen is much brighter? I ASSUME you meant the new screen is brighter, but based purely on the written words, it's is completely ambiguous. Help a brother out and attach an ounce of clarity to the main point of the entire blurb!

9I believe she was talking about the new screen as Apple is reporting that it is the same brightness of the old technology. And since she's saying that the difference is not because her old display is dirty and has fingerprints that would lead me to believe she is talking about her new screen being brighter.
