New Apple TV Details Leaked

Upcoming Apple TV Will Run Apps, Be Called iTV

Rumored news of an updated Apple TV surfaced a few months ago, and now there is more information on the new version of the often-overlooked Apple product. According to "a trusted source," the new $99 Apple TV will be renamed iTV
(iOS, iTV . . . I'm noticing a pattern here) and will not be enabled to handle 1080i or 1080p video; it will instead play only at 720p. Apparently the A4 processor included in the new iTV (the same processor in the iPhone 4) can't handle the higher resolution content.

What the new iTV will have, however, are apps and an app store, though it's unclear how such apps and a store would relate to Apple's existing iPad and iPhone app stores. Additionally, iTV will be able to stream songs from iTunes. As usual, no official word from Apple on the rumored specs or a release date, though most predict the new iTV will hit the market sometime this Fall.
