This list is surprising and shocking at the same time - do people honestly think these passwords are safe to use? They may be easy to remember, but in terms of being secure and difficult to crack- not so much. This list, which appeared in the May 8th edition of PC Magazine shows the 10 most commonly used online passwords, none of which surprised me. Although monkey- Am I too geeky to get this one?

- password
- 123456
- qwerty
- abc123
- letmein
- monkey
- myspace1
- password1
- blink182
- (your first name)

Therapy
what the heck is qwerty?
1"Password"?? Seriously??
2"QWERTY" are the first letters on a keyboard from left to right.
I would think that (your birthday) would be on the list, and not "monkey"
3Im guilty of using password on some things before, but I made sure it was something that i didn't care about people getting into. like public access to my photobuckets and stuff like that.
4oh
5should've seen that xD
I admit to being one of the people who's used one of those pws
although i didn't know so many people liked blink182
monkey... I think everyone would think it was random.
6monkey... I think everyone would think it was random.
7letmein...that is funny!!!
I like sites that have a password strength meter. Those are good for people who cannot create strong passwords.
8Our work passwords are far more nightmarish than these. Strong passwords suck because you have to write them down. That's not safe, but remembering so many strong passwords is damn near impossible.
9Oh, the whole point I was trying to get across is that strong passwords can be just as unsafe because a lot of people write them down. Sorry, hard to be clear when I'm in a food coma.
10i love letmein and qwerty (because i sat there for a minutes trying to figure out why that?) But monkey- never would have guess that.
11Love this list though.

This is an eye-opener. I mean you know people make up silly passwords, but sometimes in my case I like to keep it simple. Just not too simple like the first three letters of the alphabet!
12I do admit I use my first name but I add extra letters and numbers. I am not good with remembering things lol.
13I love in Hackers when they go over the list
14Love
sex
and God
There is one more but I can't remember what it is.
ha ha i can think of two people I know who use two of those passwords! lol
15Mine are so good, even i forget
~*~The Penguins are slowly stealing my sanity~*~
We actually uncovered some of the same passwords when analyzing a file that a myspace phisher left on his server. (http://www.ghettowebmaster.com/myspace/phished-myspace-accounts/) It's interesting to see what we thought were weird turn up in another study. The good news though is that it's not nearly as bad as it seems. For example, out of 26,000 logins, only 63 used "password1" as their password.
Any word on how PCMag conducted this study?
16glad to say none of those were mine...however I have been known to use 1q2w3e which is another easy one to hack
17I have 18 different passwords that I use consistently. Some are alternate caps, some all caps, some are spelled L33+, some of them are just simply misspelled purposely, and absolutely NONE of them have anything to do with Star Trek or Warcraft, because I am nothing if not a known Trekkie/Crafter. And none of them are written down.
If anybody gets into any of my stuff, they deserve whatever they get.
18I can't stand having to remember passwords. I can't wait for the day that we can use fingerprints or eye scans or hair samples or something... ;D
19Honestly, I wasn't too surprised with the "monkey" password. I think it's the younger crowd that would use that one, and that's probably why it's so high on the list.
Those are silly passwords
who would use those.
20Haha! What kind of idiot would use 'password' or something like that for their password?!
21I think my first ever password was password... way back when I was in middle school. I've learned by now though
I also really like letmein. I cant believe so many people are that cleaver!
22
Somebody would have to be stupid to use these passwords.
23Are You Serious? Sounds like A Joke
24HAHAHAHAHA! When my husband and I started dating we both were using Blink182 as a password!
We didn't know it at first, but found out as things got more serious. That was over 7 years ago! (Of course, neither of us uses it now) but I can't believe it's still popular. I guess because
it's letters and numbers.
25My old work password was so ridiculous, it had to be a combo of letters, numbers, 1 capital, 1 symbol, and the numbers/letters couldn't be in a sequence!
26Wow, that is surprising. I have to have letters and numbers for my passwords at work and cannot reuse passwords. That's hard to keep up with!!
27Where I worked, the password had to be changed every 3 months and it can't be a previous password
28This is so funny and hard to believe. They are silly passwords.
29"Password" for a password, hahahah talk about creativity, its like naming your daughter "Daughter"
I can't believe the 'letmein' one, haha its quite funny
30That's crazy. I know a lot of people that use silly passwords though... like the name of their favorite foods or their boyfriend/girlfriend's name. I guess it's just easier to remember.
31That's not crazy, I work with passwords every day, and my two biggest problems are people wanting to change their password to "something they can remember" (which means password or enter or letmein, but they cant'
) or their first name or something.
32Shhhhh don't tell anyone, but my password to everything is the same as everyone elses... All asterisks!
33I don't think its really that hard to come up with a mainly numerical password and throw in a few letters... especially if its connected for example: here's a seven didget password... how old you were when you got your first kiss, then the year you were born, and the first initial of your current or favorite pet... that way its conected to you with things that are easy to remember but not easy for someone else to figure out...
34HAHa, i really shouldn`t be laughing since I`ve used more than one of those on the list lol
35Funny! I try and use passwords that even someone who knew me well wouldn't be able to easily figure out.
36Monkey? I dont get it either!
37I had NO idea people would use qwerty...wonder if French people use their homerow LOL!
monkey is one of the top 10 passwords?!? why?!?
38QWERTY is a good one, never heard of it. Letmein is funny.
39LETMEIN?
40Whoa... what about god? Or was that just in the movie Hackers?
41BLINK182? REALLY? Ahahahahahahahaha
42I am with you helgatheweber!
43Mine are usually the first letters of very obscure quotes, plus numbers & punctuation all jumbled up. Often the quotes are just from a conversation between me & a friend or relative. Totally random.
44This is where online password managers save the day!
They create strong passwords for you, store them in an 'online vault' and log you directly into your accounts.
I work for Passpack which as you may be guessing is - an online password manager and we are always trying to get people to realize just how important your passwords (and what they access) really are!
Choose and use a password manager-

Hope it helps!

45blink182? Seriously?
46letmein is great! and qwerty!
47would never use password or 123456 ... durr!
some of my passwords were pretty simple back when I started using the internet (anyone remember using Juno for email?)
48I'm a bit dependent on having firefox save my passwords...but sometimes it doesn't work...
Fwah....? blink182? Really? That and letmein has to be the only security given ones on that list. Jeezus!
