Minority Report Tech

I just picked up Minority Report on Blu-Ray over the weekend, and after watching it twice (yes, twice), was pretty blown away by all the amazing concept gadgets and technology. It's kind of hard to believe that the film came out in 2002, since the tech it featured is just now catching up to real life. From gesture-based computers, to transparent screens, to 3D holograms, Minority Report was on the cutting edge of tech back then, so take a look at the technology that has made a foray from big screen to real life here!

• Iris scanners — Those crazy iris scanners that identified everything from your identity to your last purchase at The Gap.
• 3D Holograms — Though we can't yet watch 3D versions of ourselves on home movies, we can chat with others like CNN did during the 2008 election, and dance alongside a few holograms in Vegas.
• Gesture-based interfaces — Not just for video games anymore, the gesture-based interfaces like we saw in Minority Report will soon be a real way of life — crazy gloves and all.

• Personalized advertisements — The iris scanners we mentioned before aside, these new adverts can detect your age and sex, then entice you with products that fit your demographic, or gives you free stuff when it notices you are smiling.
• Transparent computer screens — Seen at this year's CES, Samsung introduced its very Minority Report-like see-thru laptop screens.
• Precrime — It's true! Not only are there scientists developing ways to predict which parolees will commit future crimes, but Google and the CIA are investing in similar technology for the rest of us.
• Video calling — No surprise here, but Apple and Skype are all over this "concept" feature!
