Manual Typewriter: Love It or Leave It?

I have always had a fondness for vintage typewriters, but I can't imagine paying the price for an authentic antique (they can go from anywhere between $100 and $2,000!).

This Olivetti manual typewriter ($125) is a nice compromise. The brand has been around since the early 1900s and this portable style is the very last manual typewriter in production today. It doesn't even require power.

I have an Olivetti ms 25 premier plus, and for the price, it is a wonderful machine. It is compact, affordable, and shiny. If you have the money to get it, do so. I'm 13 and I can use it perfectly fine.

Love it! Can't wait to get one... A few months ago I was searching online for some in cool colors (orange, pink, blue, purple), but I still haven't seen any purple typewriters unfortunately.

I used an old one of my dad's. I loved it, even though I was never a good typist, I didn't have enough strength in my fingers, lol. What I didn't like was its zero delete abilities. Computers win on that one.

My mother still has hers, a portable one that weighs a ton. She'd give it to me if I asked for it, and it came pretty cheap as it's ancient. She still likes to use it, and I live in fear for the PC keyboard as she sometimes forgets that she doesn't have to press that hard. :P

Leave it. I haaaaaaated using my mom's typewriter to type stuff until my parents finally bought a computer in Junior High. It never worked right and correcting anything sucked.

My mom used to take me to her typewriting class and they would let me practice. I remember typing a list of all the students in my second grade class for fun. Its what helped me become a faster typer.

Love it. I do not currently have one however I still have my memories of being little and adoring my grandmother's type write. I didn't get to use it often however when she did take it out for some reason, she would leave it out until I came over for the weekend. Though the ribbon getting stuck was a bit of a pain, I still love the classic type writer.

I can't imagine what it must have been like to type a thesis paper on one of those things :o I have two manual typewriters and use them occasionally when I'm feeling nostalgic. They were purchased at a thrift store in the late 80's and early 90's for $5.00 in mint condition. There is absolutely NO WAY I would pay more than that. NO WAY!!

I love manual typewriters... the sound, the smell of the ribbon... try to hack that thieves! But I sure don't miss the white out...and there was lots of it, I'm a horrible speller.
