On Sunday night, I witnessed the unveiling of a new art piece consisting of LED-lit books, hung high above a square in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. Called "Language of the Birds," artists Dorka Keehn and Brian Goggin participated in the literal unveiling β at first, each book was shrouded and unlit, and one by one, a string was pulled to reveal each book, which were then lit up as the night darkened.
If you find yourself in the city, go by Columbus and Broadway at night, for it's not everyday you can see a flock of illuminated books in flight.

Ah, my friend from England is coming to visit me in Berkeley next week. I can't wait to take him to see this in San Francisco.
1These are so beautiful!

2I grew up a few blocks from there! City Lights bookstore (the sponsor of this, I believe) was definitely a staple of my childhood
3They are so cool! I'm pretty sure that I had a dream once about flying books.
I would love to be able to see it in person.
4Really lovely. Isn't it supposed to rain later this week though?
5so glad you were there but wanted to let you know that it's a permanent installation.
