Have You Ever Tried to Negotiate With Your Cable Company?

Yesterday, my amazing roommate sent me an amazing email: "I just cut our cable bill to $101.50 a month." While that may still seem steep, consider we're two tech-loving girls in a house full of TVs, DVRs, computers, and high-speed wireless routers that we use all the time. I know we're not alone, but I'm amazed that she was able to talk our bill down by nearly $100. I thought there were set fees for some services, but apparently even the cable companies cut valued customers a break.

Since most of you pay for bundled service, have you ever tried to negotiate a better rate with success? Share your story below!

The most you'll ever get is help with selecting the cheapest package.

I'm moving next month, so I'm gonna tell them to either give me a better rate or I'm switching to satellite.

Funny enough I just got off the phone with Verizon Fios discussing their rates to compare with what I pay at Comcast so I can go back to Comcast and see what they can do for me! A year or two ago out of nowhere my cable/internet bill skyrocketed to like $200, I called immediately and whoever I spoke to put me under a couple promotions bringing the bill down to $120, he told me each time a promotion ends, call up & ask to be put under a new promotion! Being doing that ever since :)

Yep. It works, especially if you compliment their service but then give them a sob story about how you can't afford it... it worked for me anyway! It also helped that the person I talked to was a man and I'm a woman... hahaha. Either way, I cut my cable and now I only pay $50 a month (for 15 mbps internet) instead of my $110 bundle of digital cable and internet. Netflix saved my life after TV though! Wii streaming is amazing.

I got them to bring down my bill by $70 just by asking for a better rate. They offered me $20 off, at which point i told them that their competitor was offering the same package for less, and they are offering me free installation and a $200 cash back. They wouldn't give me cash, but they gave me all the premium channels for free for 12 months, and a discount on my internet. Pretty much $70 per month off. When the year ran out we had the same conversation and they found yet another deal for me. Trust me all you have to do is ask.

Yes, I did negotiate — and it worked. I got HBO and they offered me the Playboy Channel for free. Quite amusing for a gay man!
