Geek Tip: Text Mint to Get Your Bank Account Balance

I regularly sing the praises of Mint, a free site that makes it easy to manage your finances online, so when I heard about their latest feature — text message alerts of your account balances — I couldn't wait to try it out.

If you're already signed-up to Mint, just text BAL or BALANCE to MyMint (696-468) and Mint will send you the balances from all of your bank accounts that you track in your Mint account.

Now you won't have any excuses about over-spending when you're out shopping!

First I <3 Mint but secondly I've been signed up for these texts for a while and for some reason it always sends it to me Friday night right about dinner time. It kinda makes for a little less carefree Friday evening. Perhaps I can change this.

I was apprehensive at first, but after going through their security info (It's all read-only - they can't see your passwords or any other sensitive info and you can't use it to move money around) I knew I had to give it a shot. I've only spent about 10 minutes on this site and I can already see where most of my spending goes - food! I spend way too much time out eating/drinking with friends and I spend even more on buying lunch at work instead of bringing my own. I think I could spend just as much money on healthier food, and probably more of it. My guy and I are looking forward to actually spending more time on this site when we get home from work. :D(FYI, apparently WAMU allows for text account balancing as well)

I think it would be better if the source image for this was a non-iphone phone. Because at first, I thought this was referring to an iphone application. It was only after re-reading it that I realized you were talking about a normal text message.

My sister & I were just talking about how convenient it would be if our credit union could text us back the balance in a particular account we have instead of having to get online or call the 800#. This is GREAT!! I can't wait to try this out! Thanks GeekSugar! :)
