First Impressions of the T-Mobile G1

Now that you've feasted your eyes on my G1 unboxing images, it's time to show you how this handset performs with my first impressions video. Overall, I was impressed with the big responsive touchscreen, the customizable home screen, the option to scroll with either the trackpad or my finger, and the 3-megapixel cam on the back (that feels like a traditional point-and-shoot camera).

The biggest let down? The speed. I tested it out alongside a 3G iPhone and found that both video quality and speed was better with the iPhone. Also, I noticed that some of the apps didn't seamlessly load, and needed to be refreshed to open, something I'm sure a software update can probably fix.

I've been using a G1 for about a month now and have to admit that I'm surprised by how much I like it. I honestly thought I would be a let down, but it has surpassed my expectations. Prior to the G1 I was using a blackberry 8800 and I think the G1 is a superior phone and pda.

Pretty stoked for when mine comes! Thanks for the demonstration :) I'm sure there'll be a new one no later than next year that's quicker and looks better, but I'm just excited T Mobile finally has a good phone!

Thanks for the vid Geek. It reminds me of my old sidekick but honestly, compared to the iPhone its not grabbing my attention as much as it is for others.

Thanks for posting this...I preordered and expect mine to arrive sometime between tomorrow (there are rumors that they'll ship early)..and I can't seem to get ENOUGH info on this thing (not that there's a lack of, I'm just saying, I'm totally addicted!). I've had every Sidekick that has come out since initial release, so I'm a little stoked to finally be graduating to a new device. I never wanted to switch before because I've become so accustomed to the patented keyboard, but now, now I look forward to having the best of both worlds, touch-screen AND my beloved keyboard!
