Who Will You Not Add on Facebook?

I turned to Facebook a few years ago when MySpace had become too much of a friend request circus; I realized I wanted to have more personal connections with the kind of information I shared. However, with Facebook's new Twitter-like layout and option to share with everyone, I'm starting to feel like user privacy is not such a priority for the gargantuan site anymore.

On the note of privacy, though, I will say that I am letting in some new Facebook users I hadn't thought I ever would when I joined. My mom and I are friends, and I've found long-lost cousins, and my great-aunt in her eighties is one of my newest friends. I also have no problem adding work friends, but then I'm at a point in my life when I'm not going to crazy parties and having relationship drama, so I have nothing potentially embarrassing going on.

That's not to say I'm comfortable with adding anyone who tries to add me — I have a particular disdain for people I went to school with but never, ever spoke to, because I want people I genuinely know and care about, and vice versa. I'll ignore a friend request so fast if it's someone I suspect is just adding me to up their numbers.

And of course, I don't add anyone I straight up don't know, or companies using Facebook. What about you? Are there family, friends, co-workers, or others that you won't add on Facebook?

I'm getting more particular. I'm slowly deleting people too. I just want the people I actually care about and want to hear from.

I won't add people I don't know. I also find it pathetic people I went to school with and never spoke to want to add me. Pathetic... Sometimes I'm nice and I'll confirm it but others not so much. I also hate bars/clubs trying to add me. No thanks!

After looking at my profile, I realized that I am friends with a LOT of people that I don't work with anymore.

I dont add strangers at all. But i add people I know from other social networking sites, like lj or twitter, and my family, and old people i used to talk to. I dont really add anything crazy to my facebook anyhow. ;p

I dont accept from businesses or ppl that I have never had at least one memorable convo with.

I don't add people I don't know/don't share a significant amount of friends with... and i absolutely refuse and despise requests from people that were horribly mean to me in high school that want to be my friend because my life is 100 times more interesting than theres is... haha

I add people I know, ignore those I don't really want to be in touch with, and delete people I've added if there has been no conversation/interaction after 3 months : ) It's worked well so far.

I would never allow strangers on my friends list; just, no. I keep strict privacy settings. I do not want any of the unwanted attention that could bring; pervs are everywhere these days.

I find it difficult to ignore requests from people I actually do know. I don't want to be rude, so I usually just add them. I also get random friend requests from people I do not know at all; I always ignore those. I do think it's a little weird that my mom, uncle etc. are on my facebook now, but oh well...

My profile is set so that you can't find me in a search, only my friends can view anything in my profile, and other people can't ask to be my friend. If I want to be friends with someone, I initiate contact. This saves me from having to reject friend requests. I am only facebook friends with people I wouldn't cringe at the thought of having a drink with in real life. I'm not friends with any relatives, or coworkers who aren't actually friends.

People I don't want to add I just leave on my list of 'friendship requests'... so i have about 20 pending friends who I will never accept or decline. Because it sort of bums them out if they realise they were declined, although i'm not nice enough to accept them either.

You can take people off too - there was a girl that I played sports with all through jr high and high school that added me and I accepted until I saw her status that she was in a contest with her husband to see who could get to 200 friends first. I deleted her. That's just dumb.

I have a few guys that were a bit "obsessed" (for lack of a better word) with me in high school. I rejected them. Otherwise, just about everyone is in, as long as I know them. I even have my mother AND mother-in-law on there!

I am glad that I am not the only one who doesn't add people who they went to school with but really didn't talk to them or even talk to them now. I have had a few people from my past school experiences add me and I wonder why. When I have accepted, they don't message me or leave me a post on my wall or comment on my status. What is the point of adding me then?

I only add people I know and have an interest in talking to. It makes me nuts when I got on there and see people with like 1437 friends. "Oh I made eye contact with her once in high school, I should add her." ...not what it's for.

they have always had the option to have your profile to be shown to everyone. it was in the search options. so this isnt a big change.

I only add people I know. If I'm unfamiliar with your name (you know, one of the "name rings a bell" type deals) I'll reply asking who you are/how do I know you. I'm big with my the privacy rules and lists so rather than cause ill will with PTA members, I'll add them and put them right into a group that has high privacy. And then I go and view my page as them to make sure it's working right. (Not that I do anything crazy, but I do have a potty mouth at times and I do find some things funny - skittles vodka anyone? - and don't think that would go over too well.

I'll add pretty much anyone that I've met at least once, but now that I think about it I might trim down my friends list to just people that I actually have some interest in, haha. We'll see. *shrug*

I just don't add people I don't know or barely knew in school. I'm currently putting off the decision of whether or not to accept my boyfriend's mother's friend request. I mean, how don't I add her? >_<
