OMG LOL!
Phrases that used to be reserved for texting, instant messaging, and personal blogging are now coming right out of our mouths! Whether it's a reflection of wanting to talk the way we type, being allowed to say things in acronym form that you couldn't otherwise (i.e., "WTF"), or if it's just the new slang, everybody's doin' it.
The Gossip Girl kids are throwing around the acronyms (so much so that their ads nearly ignited a riot), Barney Stinson is abbreviating everything, and I have even been known to let "maj" and "OMFG" slip.
What about you? Do you reserve the shortcut-speak for your typing, or do you fit this in to your everyday slang?

Fendi
Haha only when it is in regards to something crazy or funny with my sisters. Such as "WTF were you thinking?"
1I guess I've said "What the F" before but not "WTF" . . . or OMG in a satirical sense- I think I'm at a stage in my life post-grad school where not that many "exciting gossip-girl-esque" things happen to me to warrant these types of responses, long gone are the days of high school!
2BTW (hehe) aistea311 i LOVE your Walle-Eva picture
Awesome movie!
3If I'm joking about it then I have before. But under normal circumstances, I have no problem talking like a civilized person that has passed an English class.
4I say btw. some of my friends have shortened that to bee-tee-dubs.
5i yell GTFO and DIAF during mario kart or beer pong
6No, never. I rarely even type in text-speak as I have a deep-seated loathing for it.
7The only text-type speak that I use often is "WTF?" because it's much more family friendly!
8Every now and then I'll let a "BRB" slip when I am leaving the room for a second, and then I immediately cringe. Sooo lame haha.
I really only use "BRB, LOL, and WTF" when I am texting. I'm not a fan of the crazy long abbreviations. I'd rather type things out.
9sometimes I say OMG, which is hilarious because it's just as long as saying the one syllable words that make it up
10i say WTF and OMG a lot with my friend and brother to make fun of text-speak.
11The only thing I say on a regular basis is brb. Other than that, I speak like I have passed English.
12Ha, Chasing Jamie, I say "bee tee dubs" too.
13I say OMG, WTF, and IDK. Just to be funny when I'm with my friends.
14I often say TMTH instead of "too much to handle"
15I don't do it and I think it's kind of dumb when people do but to each his own
16I use whole words. I kind of have to.
17Some times it just slips out! But when I'm thinking 'i don't know' I see 'idk' in my head. And i do say 'wtf'
18I tend to only because I have a razor and it takes too long if you type out full words. When I get a phone with a full keyword I'll type it all out...unless it makes the message too long. haha
19I totally find myself saying OMG and IDK. I think its funny but everyone else thinks its annoying. Oh well. I dont usually text abbreviations but I do it on IM all the time.
20i say 'lol', 'megalolz', 'lulz', 'lmao' and 'rofl' when i take the p*ss
But I say epic fail way too much
21i say 'lol', 'megalolz', 'lulz', 'lmao' and 'rofl' when i take the p*ss
But I say epic fail way too much
22sometimes i say stuff like "lol" and "brb" i mostly say "brb" though
23If I'm in a hurry, I use abbreviations. Otherwise, I type it all in.
24i do include some things like ttyl but i don't use it 100%
25I'm in the other category. I speak normally 99.5% of the time. Ever so often, I'll throw in an OMG!
26It's disturbing (yet amusing) when my students do it both talking -one kid said "my b, Ms. G" then was amused by his rhyme- and writing. I'm harsh when it comes to their writing, though. If I see "u" on a paper, I freak.
i only do it as a joke and when i'm teaching. middle schoolers think it's hilarious when i say, "oh em gee!" it gets their attention and keeps them awake.
27I don't use them out loud no.
Maybe you missed it, but the major cell company in Canada, Rogers, used this as a premise for their ads about 6 months ago.. the newest rendition of mom not understanding daughter.. this time its because she is using text speech..
(the funniest was the followup add, as 'Hip' grams gets into the action..)
(sorry.. couldn't find it on Youtube..)
28I've been saying text abbreviations as words for a couple of years now, and the vast majority of people I've worked with do, too. We don't say the letters though: LOL isn't "elle oh elle" when said out loud, it's "low'l". BRB isn't "bee are bee" it's "burb". OMG is "omgah" and OMFG is "ompf gah", ROFL is "rowful", etc.
The list is actually pretty short, though. I never say the letters, and in the case of something like BTW, there's no good way to make it into a word, and just saying "by the way" is faster anyway. TTYL and IDK fall into that category too.
29My faves are: "OMFG", "WTF" and "UGH"...I can't help it...it's so convenient, LOL.
I also use QSC (quick subject change) when I have a new thought that needs to be expressed, LOL.
But I'm loving bee-tee-dubs aka BTW!!!!
