Do You Share Your Passwords with Anyone?

Online passwords are the 21st century padlocks; get them leaked and you're vulnerable to all kinds of nasty invasion. You have to be really careful who you share them with — if ever! At most workplaces, it's a huge no-no to share your password with anyone, but if you have email, a bank card, WiFi, or belong to any social networks, chances are you have a ton of personal passwords (and I hope they're not lame).

What's your thoughts on passwords? Do you share them with anyone, or do you keep them all under lock and key?

No! No sharing! Unless it's an emergency and I need someone to get something from my email for me. But then I turn around and change EVERY PASSWORD. You're supposed to change your passwords every 3 weeks or so. Maybe that's being too safe. But you can never be too safe! Especially with my nerdy side. I would cry and cry if my Neopets account was ripped apart. Never share passwords! Nevarrrrr.

EvilDorkGirl, my sentiments exactly. In addition, it seems an illogical choice to bother having a BF or husband at all if you truly believed that one day they would rip off or hurt you in some way. IMO, you can't ever truly live unless you risk your heart. Maybe thats corny, but for me it rings true.

"Yowch! With all due respect, your boyfriend or husband is the LAST person on earth you should share your password with..." Boyfriend, OK. But not share my passwords with my husband?!?! Since we share the same bank account, and my name is on all of his credit cards (and vice versa), so it seems rather selfish to not share that information with him, as it is his credit too. Besides, it's not like you can't change the passwords should something turn south. That attitude of mistrust can be VERY damaging to a relationship. Why would you get married to a person you can't trust with your life? Because, IMHO, trust & honesty are the absolute minimum required for a relationship to work.

I once told my boyfriend a password to allow him to use the computer lab to print out some papers, but that's only because I knew he would quickly forget it! :-D

I’ve never shared my passwords except once. My longtime girlfriend wanted to comment on a website but she didn’t want to sign up for an account. I allowed her to log into my account and post a comment whenever she rarely wanted to. But then she got rude toward some people that I was use to just ignoring when they had a bad day. In other words, she was looking like she was me while being rude to them. All they saw was my screen name and her foul words to them. Then after I put a stop to that, this chick went on to other websites/blogs and started quoting my words. A lot of these things she was NOT supposed to be repeating about what I do. Anywho, after seeing the words that I wrote quoted on a website, knowing they were clearly mine, I went off on her and dismiss her from my life. So needless to say now, that was the first and last time I allowed someone to have my password, allowing them access to be me on the Internet. Thank goodness I never allowed her access to other passwords to the TRULY important things in my life. In a way I got lucky with that.

My fiance and I know each other's passwords, but that's it. I don't run to tell him my password for every individual website, but if it comes up, then I don't care.

My boyfriend knows mine... at least, I've told him but he doesn't remember them, so I guess I'm safe. I know his though. I think it's pretty interesting though because I have pretty weak passwords and he can't remember them, but he's a computer engineer who has written a special program to randomly generate a gibberish password every so often, and I know all of his!

I think it's so silly when people complain about stuff happening, or getting hacked, when they hand their password out to all their friends. Come on... have a little common sense!

My dad knows my AOL password (he set it up for me back in high school), and from that, he is pretty good at guessing some of my other passwords, and I let him in case of emergencies. I've told my fiance some of my passwords (like my Pogo one), but he always forgets.

Certain people know certain passwords of mine. And, my sisters/friends will give me there to their emails or other accounts when they need me to do something for them.

One of my sisters knows a couple of my passwords but they are mainly what i used when we used to chat on yahoo etc. I know my little sisters myspace password because i made it a part of the deal of setting it up for her, she's 14.

My boyfriend (who I live with) knows all of my passwords, and I know all of his. Hell, we even know each other's pin numbers...it's just practical for us. If he's running to the bank after class and I'm still at work, he can take money out for me etc. We trust each other completely, and I know that if we ever (hope not) broke up, all of thse passwords can be changed.

Hubby knows my gaming password ... but nothing else. I do not share my pw's with anyone else at all.

I don't share mine with anyone, and I don't think I would ever share the passwords to my "important stuff" (aka e-mail, online banking etc) with anyone, but less important stuff I could probably share with, say, a boyfriend or husband, when that time comes and if it felt necessary. I would, however, make sure I chose a password for those things that had no affiliation what so ever to the important stuff, and I would make sure it wasn't a huge deal if something were to happen.
