I know that commercials are unavoidable — if they don't get ya in the product placement of your shows, then you're a captive audience in the movie theater. One place I no longer watch commercials on is the TV — thanks to TiVo! I buzz through everything, including boring parts on the shows themselves (Adult ADD: I'm looking into it).
I assume that's what everyone else does too, which is why it's interesting that TiVo is being used by the ad agency Starcom to see what commercials people are watching. Even though I insist that I don't watch any, I guess I might stop every once in a while for an ad spot that looks really goofy (or has my favorite new song in it, courtesy of Apple).
What about you, since so many of you TiVo or use DVRs — do you brake for certain commercials (and what kind if you do?), or do you fast forward through everything?

1I don't really watch enough TV to justify the expense of a Tivo. Only really have time for CNN, The Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Everything else gets downloaded on my iPod to watch at the gym or when I'm traveling.
2I wonder if with all the Tivos out there speeding through commercials if some ad agency has ever worked on a super slowed down commercial that when fast forwarded via Tivo it plays at normal speed?

7I don't have Tivo, but I do kind of like commercials. I notice that when I watch TV with my friends, they'll all change the channel to a different show for 5 minutes while the commercials are on, and it drives me nuts for some reason. I like to sit through and watch the commercials, or get up for a few minutes to do something.
8I mostly skip, but if I catch a glimpse of something interesting I'll go back and check it out. Usually it a new movie, tv show, or just something that looks wacky.
p.s. I have been trying to cope with my "Adult ADD" and have just started using ADD planner. I get it to say reminders out loud or open up things I should be working on.
9Commercials are my time to either go to the washroom or get a snack.
10Or I just flip channels and see what else is on in the meantime.
Sometimes I watch them, especially if it's live TV. And with DVRed TV, I sometimes forget that I can fast forward through them.
11i haven't watched tv in months - i have been watching things online (muting the sound and looking away when there is an ad before the show) and on DVD instead.
12Not unless they're extremely well-done or clever. Even then, they rarely, if ever, entice me to purchase the product they are selling.
13i don´t have Tivo So is Live Tv for me... and when the commercials are on i usually get up and do something or start flipping the channels, but sometimes i do like to watch the commercials.
14I read during commercials, and will sometimes even do so with shows I DVRed.
15I use the commercials as little breaks to go get something or just to walk around. I'd rather do that than get the remote and fast forward, then rewind because I went too far.
16obviously I watch them on normal tv but when in On Demand I speed through them...
17i work in marketing and advertising. i love commercials. i even compete in ad wars where knowledge of commercials is favorable. i can even tell you what companies produced which commercials in some cases!
18I usually fast forward through commercials except I will stop and play Sonic Drive-in commercials because they crack me up.

Same here. And when I have to watch, I mute them. And read magazines. I like quiet times in between.
20Without commercials I would be hungry, thirsy and have to pee!

21I don't have a DVR, but I mute the tv when the commercials are on.
