Watching live TV is so 20th century. These days, advantages in technology let us enjoy one of life's great pleasures — watching the tube — without being chained down by a schedule. A DVR is great, but a TiVo DVR offers a ton of features besides just recording your favorite shows.

I have a TiVo (which is great) but it's such a shame that all those features are for Americans only!
1I'm moving to grad school, and I've been thinking about getting a TiVo...I don't know if I actually need cable (I mean, I do watch random shows and it'd get good use, but I can't justify the extra $50 some-odd/mo on a grad budget), but I WILL be using the internet quite a lot, so I can see this being beneficial for the other reasons listed.
Though I *would* like to keep the shows that I watch on regular TV on the TiVo for later viewing...that'd be nice!

3Yeah - TiVos are WAY more than DVRs these days. Streaming Netflix is probably my #1 non-DVR use (although it's close to DVR) but I also do lots of music and picture streaming.

4I love TiVo but don't like paying the monthly subscription fee. I use my Comcast DVR and stream content over Roku - a much more affordable solution!
