Chalkboard Speaker Shelf: Love It or Leave It?

Talk about double duty! This Chalkboard Speaker Shelf from PBTeen is an awesome way to integrate tech at home, because it's got iPod speakers, and, of course, you can write on the chalkboard in front.

It seems like chalkboards are everywhere right now, so this feels like a smart, natural progression. But is it prohibitively expensive at $180? It seems like you could DIY this for cheaper if you were crafty, but still, I admire its looks and the idea of it.

LOL morgy I had the same thought! I was going to hang a chalkboard up in my new place but I don't want to deal with the dust.

I like it, but I feel like I wouldn't really write on it too often because of the chalky mess. So it wouldn't be worth it to me.

it's cool and pretty and fun, however having it close to your desk or living room, or wherever, it will cause extra dust from the chalk i guess. hehe i can be a cleaning freak sometimes :)

I like it. My kids love chalk boards but I wouldn't buy it for them when they coudl just play with a regular and less expensive chalk board. But it is a cool idea.

Eh. looks okay in the picture, but at my house it wouldn't last very long before it got drawn all over with messy scribbles, and would end up making the room look junkie.

Like the idea, but it's too expensive for me. I know I just paid $300 for my iPod stereo...but at least the speakers are wireless and portable! I think I'll send this to ReadyMade - they can probably come up with a version that I can put together that costs less than HALF this one!
