Cell Phone Straps Are A Must Have Accessory In Japan

Japan is definitely an accessory crazed nation, so when I saw these unique cell-phone straps from Strapya I didn't even bat an eyelash. From school girl uniforms, a yoga guru, a Hello Kitty charm and even a gremlin with matching colored phone, these straps add personal style to generic cell phones. Do you think these straps will soon be a thing of the past? Or will their popularity continue to grow in Japan but not in North America? Leave your thoughts and comments below!

when my friends were in japan, they brought me a cell strap, and now all the ones on my sidekick are from japan.(I only have 3 little ones:) I agree with Lady Copenhagen, my phone is easier to find with all the jingling. I even bought one on eBay years ago that came all the way from Hong Kong!

I'm living in Japan and keeping my cellphone simple with only 4 straps. I've seen people with so many straps it's bulkier than the phone itself. (LOL) They do make it easier to find the phone in a big bag, and both women AND men carry huge bags here so it's helpful for everyone. Teenagers often use extra-long straps so they can wear the phone around their necks for easy reach. Many people don't have generic-looking phones even without the straps. There are street stalls all over the place where you can get your phone (or any other small device) resurfaced with custom designs, or have it blinged-out with rhinestone and bead decorations. I got my boring white ipod decorated with a traditional floral pattern at one of them.

Yeah i was surprised to see the men with them when i was in Japan. and i agree inertia, some clusters of charms were bigger than the phone. i live in a high Asian populated area in Canada and a lot of people here have them too. we have a lot of stores that import direct from asia so these items are very accessable. they are totally cute but still i like things streamlined. i use small purses though and my work bag has a cell pocket on the inside. (i made sure :))

yep i love em, i posted a bookmark link to winnie-the-pooh ones :)
I am living in Kyoto, and the other day I was on the train and I saw a school girl with her cell phone. She seriously had TWELVE charms on her phone. I counted! And they weren't small. She had a Mickey and Minnie charm that were more likely to be considered stuffed animals than a cell phone charm. I collect the Hello Kitty charms, as each city has their own (or a few) "kitty-chan" charms of their own - for example, Kyoto's Kitty-chan is a geisha, Nara has a kitty-chan deer, etc. I have eight so far and at one point I had six on my phone. I was like, "I know I've been in Japan too long when my charms are bigger than my phone..." so I strapped it down to just one and put the rest on my keys. >.<

I loved seeing this link! :woohoo: I've been selling online accessories since my trip to Hong Kong years ago. The cell phone charms are still selling - esp the custom ones. I'm not peddling, but I am proud of them,,, check it out at www.celegance.com. The purses are great for anyone who can't hear their phone ringing in a purse... ME! They're pretty and blingy.

I was just living in Japan, teaching middle schoolers, and you wouldn't believe how crazy popular these are!! I'm pretty sure it doesn't occur that cellphones and etc. can exist without such items; :D the cellphone companies give you there version (their logo-thing) when you buy your phone! ..., ;) my Japanese cellphone has 8. I've noticed basically any place where there is an asian community in the US and Canada, these items are popular also. I think more and more stores are carrying cellphone charms though. Definitely, getting the vibe the market is carrying over, but probably not as hardcore as in Japan. ^=^;
The whole strap thing is just awesome. They make your phone look adorable and it does help you find your phone in a big bag a lot easier. I hope the craze comes to the states.

I work with some Asian people and they seem to love the idea of bling on their phone. I am yet to get some and from the other posts I bet it'll help me find it in my bag, only thing is I don't know what I want to get. I've seem some nice crystal ones but if anyone else has any ideas let me know!
