Cell Phone Rant: Express Your Movie Theater Phone Rage!

TeamSugar user Foofie recently shared some advice in the Cell Phone Rant Group for those of us who are bothered when people talk on the phone or text in movie theaters: speak up! Foofie says:

If I tell the cellphone user to put it away and they don't, I simply go to the usher and tell them that I saw that person trying to record the movie with their cellphone and I get them booted out. Yes, it's not very nice but I feel justified in my doing so.

I have to hand it to you, Foofie, and anyone who speaks up to tech etiquette offenders. There is a time and a place.

Texting is completely unacceptable and unnecesary too. You can't go 2 hours without texting? Stay home! I went to the theatre last week and the person next to me kept texting or playing a game on her phone, the light was so annoying I couldn't concentrate on the play. I told her to stop and she did untill 10 minutes before the ending, than she started again; unbelievable!

that is why the movie theaters is not the same anymore, the constant interruption, whether it be from cell phone or from teenagers or preteens talking loudly and giving there remarks for the entire room to hear. super annoying.

No, texting through a movie IS a big deal. Totally inappropriate for a dark theater. That light is SO distracting.

I have to say, I think getting them kicked out is a little much (not to mention the lying) and i would NOT be pleased if I was texting (which I don't feel is terribly intrusive in a theater) and someone lied to an usher to get me kicked out. That said, I would never EVER talk on my cell phone in a movie theater, and think it's terrible behavior.

I hardly ever go to the theater because I just can't take being at the "rude people zoo." The loud talking is only a PART of my gripe with cellphones. I hate seeing that annoying blue light stabbing into my eye when the theater is otherwise dark. I also don't like people who decide to sit right next to, in front of, or behind me when the rest of the theater is practically empty... but I guess that's a gripe for another day.

I agree that it is rude, inconsiderate people that are the problem and not cell phones per se, but I do like the idea of someone getting kicked out of the theatre when he or she is disturbing everyone else in that vicinity.

I just don't get why a behavior is more or less annoying when a cellphone is involved. If you're talking too loudly during a movie on a cellphone, you're talking too loudly, period. It wouldn't matter whether it was to your friend sitting next to you or on a phone. If you keep having something beep, whether it's a watch, a cellphone, a portable game, or a baby monitor, it's not appropriate. I wish folks would stop blaming the cellphone when it's the people that are the problem...and those people have been a problem before cellphones and will be after cellphones.

Do not feel bad kicking someone out of a theatre! Trust me, there are so many rude and obnoxious people that go out to see movies. It will make everyone feel better!
