Call of Duty Elite Details
What's Up With the Call of Duty Social Network, Anyway?
This morning, Activision Blizzard announced a new kind of social network, one that will allow seven million daily players of Call of Duty to get more out of their gaming experience.
Called Call of Duty Elite, this network will provide gamers with enhanced map info, easy access to other online players to connect and form groups and clans, and even score daily prizes. Though it seems like it would be just for the hardcore gamer, there's reasons to love Call of Duty Elite even if you're a casual gamer. Find out why I'm stoked to use Call of Duty Elite below!
- Performance enhancing stats — Seasoned and beginning players alike will get good use out of the new map tools coming in COD Elite. There will be heat maps that show where the most kills have taken place (so you can avoid those areas, or strategize on where to hide in order to pick off enemies), which weapon was the most successful on any given map, and from which direction and distance you were shot from so you can make better gameplay decisions. This will also help beginners learn where they'll be most vulnerable and recognize areas to avoid, cutting down the frustration factor.
- Access from more than your console — Since COD Elite is a social network, you can access your profile from your console, mobile phone, and the web, which will let you see your stats in real time, connect with your group of fellow players, and view uploaded videos and screenshots from the day's games.
- Map building — Eventually, Activision Blizzard may allow players to build their own maps. MediaMolecule's LittleBigPlanet scored big with its map building features, so tapping the huge audience of COD could render hundreds of thousands of different maps, and a lot of time spent on the network.
Interested? You can sign up for a beta invite and play around with it yourself this Summer, but the full-fledged network will launch alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 this November. Do you currently play Call of Duty on your Xbox or PS3 console? Take our poll on Facebook, and tell us which title you're currently playing!
