With the announcement of the iPhone 5 came the launch of Apple's latest mobile operating system, iOS 6, which had plenty of features but was missing one key app — Google Maps.
Apple got rid of Google's mapping app in favor of its own, which turned out to be something of a disaster. Pictured, Apple maps showed two sets of the disputed Senkaku Islands, which is shown under the name Diaoyu, the name claimed by Beijing (face, meet palm).
Even though we did find a set of solid alternatives, Google Maps eventually came out with a native app for iPhone that we were really excited about.
