This holiday shopping season is shaping up quite nicely already! Not only can you score major deals on Black Friday, but now Best Buy is also offering free shipping though Dec. 21. Following closely behind Walmart's free-shipping announcement, Best Buy will foot the bill for ground shipping costs on "hundreds of thousands of items" including all Blu-rays, DVDs, video games, and accessories.

You guys were pretty psyched about the first DJ Hero, and with DJ Hero 2, there's even more reasons to get excited.
Available today, DJ Hero 2 allows you to mix some of music's hottest tracks (Lady Gaga, anyone?), but you can also battle it out with another DJ, add vocals with a mic, and have pals hop in and out of gameplay in the party mode. As if we needed another reason to look forward to Fridays! Yesterday, Best Buy announced a special program called Free Phone Fridays. The program, which spans the month of October, offers four free phones each Friday, one from each major carrier (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint). Best Buy promises that each week, they will feature at least one high-end, in-demand smartphone both in stores and online.
The program starts on October 1 and will feature the Samsung Fascinate, BlackBerry Curve, HTC Aria, and Samsung Gravity. Upcoming deals will be announced at 1 p.m. CST the Thursday prior to each Free Phone Friday in stores and online via Best Buy's Twitter account.
When the iPad came to Best Buy on launch day, it was a big deal, and apparently a successful one. After offering the devices in a limited amount of stores, Best Buy recently announced that all of its US stores would carry the device. Now, according to Chief Executive Brian Dunn, the iPad has replaced 50 percent of the store's laptop sales.

The well-dressed Kindle is already a hot-ticket item on Amazon, but soon you'll be able to pick up the ereader in more than one physical location. Joining Target as an official retailer of the Kindle, Best Buy will be stocking its shelves with the new model this Fall.
Best Buy will now carry three major ereaders — the Kindle, the Nook, and Sony Readers — creating a virtual one-stop shop for all your ereader needs. The Kindle is obviously the top seller among the three, but its expansion to more brick and mortar stores shows Amazon's commitment to keep it on top, especially since the Nook is so visible in Barnes & Noble and Best Buy already. The question remains — will this create even more price competition among the top-selling ereaders with in-store sales and discounts? I'd like to think so.

Tough economic times just got a little easier, thanks to new trade-in incentive programs from two of the country's biggest retailers. Best Buy recently announced a used video game trade-in program at nearly 600 of its US stores. 
Program participants who trade in video games at the store will receive a Best Buy gift card to use toward any item in the store — not a bad deal! Most stores will offer the service at the customer service counter, though some will have dedicated trade-in locations. I love me some location-based rewards, but sometimes I forget to check in to a location, which means I can lose out on a good deal. But with one new app, you can waltz into a Best Buy and automatically earn points, without ever needing to click "check in" on your smartphone.
The app is called Shopkick and is currently partnered up with the likes of Best Buy to bring you some great rewards just for visiting a store in one of its launch locations — 187 stores in LA, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, and San Jose on Aug. 17, with Dallas, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Miami being added on Oct. 1. Even the most tech savvy among us could use a little bit of help every once in a while, and for that, technical support teams are a lifesaver. Whether you're trying to set up a home network, figure out your wireless printer, or attach a ton of gadgets to your new TV, help with technically tricky situations is always nice to have. But some are saying that Best Buy's Geek Squad has taken it too far, charging $29 to set up an ereader.
I know from experience that setting up a Kindle takes approximately 5 minutes; it even tells you when it needs to be updated by saying something similar to, "Your Kindle needs to be updated." I'm all for Geek Squad and their funny commercials and savvy tech support, but I do think $29 is a bit much. Have you ever used this or a similar service?
iPhone 4 be damned: if you're craving a crisp, white gadget for your smartphoning pleasure, don't wait for the (still unseen) white iPhone 4. Instead, reach for the white EVO 4G, which seems to be making its debut in Best Buy locations five days early. The White EVO 4G wasn't supposed to be released until next week on July 11, but some geeks have already spotted the smartphone on shelves around the country.
We already know that the EVO 4G stacks up to the iPhone when it comes to power, versatility, and function, but if you still aren't willing to throw down for a white iPhone 4 alternative, you'll have to master the art of patience for another few weeks when the fairer-hued iPhone 4 is supposed to make its appearance.
