Well that was fast! According to the Barnes and Noble website, the Nook has sold out for 2009.
The message on the site reads, "The hottest holiday gift is out of stock. Order nook today to be first in line for the new year." None of the new devices have shipped yet, and there's still no word of when buyers can expect the Nook to arrive. I can't wait to get my hands on the new eReader, but I missed out in this round of orders. Did you manage to snag one?

I'm waiting to see one in person. I already have a Kindle, but I'm so upset with Amazon I'm ready to jump ship. I just wanted to give the Nook some time to work out their bugs, and play with it in person. I'm also hoping that they will come out with an international version as well.
1I think that each Barnes and Noble store has one for you to try out before you buy, which is a huge advantage over the kindle.
2This would have been perfect for me for the holidays but I can barely commit to the books from the library. I agree with SkinnyMarie, it helps to try a new electronic before you buy it.
3I didn't know anything about he Nook until I started researching this week the Kindle and other options. Now I want one! My parents are ordering me one for Christmas but I already know it won't be in in time but when I open my box there will be the Nook holiday certificate and a cover for it!
4I pre-ordered on day one so I'm hoping to have my nook in hand soon. The ability to handle a nook in-store is nice but not such a huge advantage since Amazon allows you to return the item within 30 days full refund no questions asked. You can really get to know the device a lot better that way than playing with it in the store.
5i have a kindle
6Yep! Ordered my mom one for Christmas on day one as well--and will probably get the Nook cover you featured for here as well. Just waiting for it now. If I like it I may get one for myself someday soon. I've always wanted a Kindle, but now I'm kind of glad I waited as I've heard great things about the Nook.
Also Geek or Akasha I have a friend living in Switzerland who has been researching Kindles and Nooks for Christmas and she too is wondering when or if there will be an international version. I told her I hadn't heard anything--is there any info out on this yet?
7I work at a B&N and I know we're expecting our displays at the end of this month. ^.^
I'm pretty sure the actual device is slotted for shipping in the first or second week of December. Not positive though.
8I already have a Kindle and I really love it. I don't have any problems with Amazon so far, so I'll be sticking with them.
9I know Kindle has an international version. I hadn't heard from B&N when or if they were going to be producing one, although on one blog they were discussing whether B&N had an international online presence for people with billing addresses outside of the US. Maybe LoHopalong has an idea about that.
10I pre-ordered, my ship date is nov 30th. I spoke with a staff member in B&N about seeing an actual one and he told me they were not getting display nooks either til nov 30th.
11My daughter gave me a Sony E-reader for Christmas. We spent 5 hrs on our own trying to connect to the online store to register. You can't use it till you register. We then spent 3hours via phone to find out it will not work with a Satellite connection. Sony gave her the instructions to return it. She ordered me a nook that very day. I understand that without a WiFi connection I may have to register it at the store but it should work. It will ship (I hope) Feb. 1. I did have fun looking for a cover which I found at Oberon Leather.
