The BacVac Would Make Vacuuming Suck Less

Yes, we got the memo - Roombas are trendy and Dysons are chic yet practical - check. But what about a vacuum that you could throw on your back, that's free from the constraints of irritating cords and a heavy base?!

I bring you the BacVac, a smart concept design created by The Continuum studio, which I spotted on Trend Hunter. This backpack-style vacuum cleaner is powered by an onboard fuel cell that would be replenished with ethanol. Hmm, they had me sold until the ethanol part!

We have a 50 or so year old Rainbow that works better than any other new vacuum I've used before. It's got a nice vintage/space age look to it, too. Nice and simple. Why can't they make them like they used to?

I can't believe so many people are bashing Dyson...I've found their vacuums to be the MOST convenient, easy, and effective vacuums I've ever used!

Okay, there are definitely some split reviews on the Dyson, and I'm watching one on eBay right now. If they suck (ha. . .no pun intended), then does anyone have strong opinions about a REALLY GREAT vacuum cleaner? I'm looking to buy one asap! Thanks :-)

It just looks like a cordless version of a type of vacuum that janitorial services already use. The fuel cell seems like a really really bad idea. Why not a powerful rechargeable battery?

Roombas and Dysons might both be hip, but they're rather useless vacuums. (OK, Roombas are great for hardwood floors. But any kind of carpet, and they just don't work good enough) And while the concept study is kind of interesting, there are vacuums that just have a light base - no need to schlepp things around. If you're looking for one, I can't recommend Miele's S251 enough. It's got a rather iightweight base that follows you around effortlessly, it's very effective, and it's soooo quiet. Yes, it has a steep price, but it was worth every cent to me.

We have a backvac at the children's theatre. It doesn't have fuel though. Just a long cord to plug into the wall but its amazing and less bulky then normal shopvacs. I saw the general manager pull it out to use it and I was in love.

my car would be so clean if i had one of these. picking up my nieces and nephew means lots of crap gets left in the back seat but i don't clean it until i wash the car. this would be awesome. providing it actually worked and wasn't heavy and trapped the dirt so my allergies didn't kick into over drive!

would of been good until i read about the fuel! but i have a good vacum cleaner, that'll be here years to come, plus i paid a small fortune for it. but in all honesty, after the sticker shock, it is worth it.

I have to say, for all their aesthetic appeal, my Dyson is the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever had. It's awful. But I spent gazillions on it so will use it until it dies.
