Al Gore Checks Out the iPad's Eco-Friendly Features

One of my favorite eco-geeks, Al Gore, was in the audience at today's Yerba Buena presentation to hear all about Apple's newest product, the iPad. Falling in line with the rest of the Apple family, the iPad is eco-friendly — coming stocked with arsenic-free display glass as well as a mercury-free LCD screen. Thankfully, the entire device is free of any toxic BFR and PVC chemicals, while the body of the iPad is enclosed with recycled aluminum and glass, so you know your iPad won't do any damage to mother earth. Damage to your wallet? Now that's a different story. Either way, I think Al would approve.

It could be referring to toxic PVC, which is where toxic chemicals are added to the PVC to give additional properties eg, stronger, more flexible etc. So it isn't entirely wrong! Plus PVC is still damaging to the environment as it is difficult to recycle :)

PVC, or polyvinyl chloride is a high molecular weight polymer (thermoplastic) As such it is inert. And if it's inert, it's NOT toxic. Talk to somebody other than professional enviro-mentalists next time.
